About Mountain Creek Sharks Football Club

Origins and Founding

Mountain Creek Football Club was created in 2012 by teachers at Mountain Creek State High School, which holds the distinction of being an AFL School of Excellence on the Sunshine Coast. In its early years the club focused on Youth Girls teams, reflecting the growth of girls' football across Queensland at the time. The club's 2013 Under 15 Girls team made the grand final, finishing runners-up, and the 2014 season brought double premiership success when both the Under 15 Girls and Under 18 Girls teams won their respective grand finals. However, after the 2015 season the club ceased operations due to a shortage of volunteers and insufficient player numbers at lower age groups to sustain the senior girls programs.

Club History

In 2018, current Club President Steve Curnow submitted an application to AFL Sunshine Coast to restart the Mountain Creek club. AFLQ approved the application on the condition that the club establish programs from the ground up - beginning with Auskick, Superstars, and Junior football - to ensure long-term sustainability. The club fielded its first junior teams in 2019 with just 38 players. By 2022, over 130 players had registered, and by 2025 the club was targeting 180-200 registered players. Operating as the Mountain Creek Junior Australian Football Club (MCJAFC), the Sharks compete in the AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors and Youth Competitions.

Home Ground

The Mountain Creek Sharks train and play in the Mountain Creek area of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. The club's base at Mountain Creek State High School grounds is part of what makes the AFL School of Excellence program significant - it gives student-athletes access to high quality coaching and facilities through both their school program and the community club. The school's AFL program allows students to study AFL as a subject in Years 9 and 10, creating a unique link between the school and the community club that supports a strong junior pathway.

Community and Programs

The Sharks run a full program from Auskick (ages 5-12) and the Superstars development program (Under 6s and 7s) through to competitive junior and youth teams. The club publishes its own newsletter, "Shark Tales," and relies heavily on volunteers from parent and family groups to run the canteen, manage teams, coach, and handle game day set-up and pack-down. Club membership drives and reverse draws are among the community fundraising activities that keep the Sharks operating as a grassroots, family-run club. By 2026 the club had secured sponsors across four tiers to support its continued growth.

Mountain Creek

Mountain Creek is a well-established residential suburb on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, approximately 105 kilometres north of Brisbane's CBD. The suburb recorded a population of 11,950 at the 2021 Census, with an estimated resident population of 12,397 as of June 2025. It sits within the Sunshine Coast Council local government area and is known for its family-friendly character, proximity to beaches, and strong community infrastructure. The presence of Mountain Creek State High School as an AFL School of Excellence has helped make the suburb a focal point for Australian football development on the Sunshine Coast.

The Sharks compete in the AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors and Youth Competitions and call Mountain Creek home. Visit the club website for registration and news, follow them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for match day updates from the Sharks.

  • Footy Banner Information

    📄 Material & Construction

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    • Durable weatherproof sports banners printed on heavy-duty coated paper - these banners are not made of crepe paper.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
