About Western City Tigers
Origins and Founding
Western City Tigers Junior Rugby League Football Club was formed in 1984, when the long-running Blackett Bears and Hebersham clubs merged to create Mount Druitt City, one of several local amalgamations that reshaped the district competition that decade, as recorded in the Penrith District Rugby League's club history. Mount Druitt City later took on the Western City Tigers name and has been based at Heber Park in Hebersham since its formation.
The Panthers Juniors history page confirms the same merger, and distinguishes the Tigers' lineage from the separate Tregear and Whalan clubs that combined in 1989 to form Western Vikings.
 
Club History
Several juniors who came through the club, then known as Mount Druitt City, went on to representative careers, including NRL winger Michael Jennings, his cousins George and Robert Jennings, Wests Tigers forward Tim Simona and Wallabies back Kurtley Beale, according to the club's Wikipedia entry.
More recently, the club's Under 12 Girls side was crowned 2025 Penrith and District Junior Rugby League grand final champion, with the Under 14 and Under 16 Division 2 teams also reaching grand final day that September. The Tigers field teams from Under 6s through to open age, including a women's side competing in the competition's W2 grade.
 
Home Ground
The Tigers are based at Heber Park, a recreation reserve in the centre of Hebersham that includes multiple playing fields, a basketball court, playgrounds and off-leash dog areas, according to Wikipedia. The ground has been the club's home since the 1984 merger and hosts training and matches for every age group across the season.
 
Community and Programs
Junior development is central to the club's identity, with players regularly progressing into representative pathways such as the Penrith Panthers' Under 16 Emerging squad. The Tigers field sides from Under 6s to open age, including a women's team, and use social media, including a Facebook following of more than 3,100, to share team news, gear collection days and player milestones with the wider Hebersham community.
 
Hebersham
Hebersham is a suburb in Sydney's Greater Western Sydney region, within the City of Blacktown local government area, about 47 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD. It recorded a population of 5,643 at the 2021 census and is centred on Heber Park, the recreational precinct the Tigers share with the local community. Hebersham sits alongside neighbouring Mount Druitt-area suburbs including Whalan, Tregear and Lethbridge Park, each with its own rugby league history in the Penrith district competition.
