About Thomson Football & Netball Club
Origins and Founding
Thomson Football Club was established in 1953, playing in the Geelong Football League before switching to the Geelong & District Football Netball League, where the Tigers have competed across three separate stints since 1957, most recently since 1985.
 
Club History
Thomson has won 11 senior premierships in the GDFNL, with flags in 2005, 2006 and 2008 among the club’s most successful periods, as recorded by the Geelong & District Football Netball League. The club’s most recent triumph came in 2024, when Thomson became the first club in league history to win a flag after coming through an elimination final, defeating Belmont 14.5 (89) to 4.11 (35) to claim its first premiership in six years under coach Paul Lynch, a former Geelong Cats player and three-time premiership coach across the GFL and CDFL. The club works to foster a sense of inclusion, belonging and pride among its members and supporters on and off the field.
 
Home Ground
The Tigers play home matches at the Thomson Recreation Reserve on Godfrey Street in Thomson, the club’s base for over seven decades.

Thomson Football & Netball Club runs senior and junior football, Auskick, and senior and junior netball programs, built around the values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, inclusion and accountability.
 
Thomson
Thomson is a small suburb of Geelong in the City of Greater Geelong, with a population of 1,607 recorded at the 2016 census. The suburb was named after Dr Alexander Thomson, the first mayor of Geelong, and remains home to the Tigers’ Recreation Reserve.
