About Wests Juniors Australian Football Club
Origins and Founding
Wests Juniors Australian Football Club traces its beginnings to 1928, when the first junior teams took to the field in Brisbane's inner-western suburbs. The current club structure was formalised in 1970, as outlined in the club's own club history. From the outset the club has been based at Oakman Park on Union Street in Toowong, and is known to its players and families as the Bulldogs.

Club History
Despite fielding fewer than 200 members in most seasons, Wests Juniors has built a reputation among Brisbane junior clubs for producing representative talent. In 2014, three Under 16 players, Jack Clayton, Connor Ballenden and Brenden Shelton, were all selected in the same national Under 15 All Australian squad, an achievement reported by AFL Queensland as a rare feat for a club of its size. Long-serving coach Keith "Happy" Wallis has coached close to 900 junior games across 35 years at the club, and is widely credited within the Brisbane football community as the driving force behind its growth since the difficult years of the 1990s.

Home Ground
Wests Juniors plays out of Oakman Park on Union Street, Toowong, a ground with a long history in Brisbane football. The site was also the original home of the senior Western Districts Australian Football Club before that club relocated to Chelmer Oval in 1971, a move recorded in the history of the Sherwood Districts Australian Football Club. Oakman Park remains the club's home today, hosting junior and youth fixtures throughout the season.

Community and Programs
Wests Juniors fields both girls' and boys' teams across the AFL SEQ Junior and Youth competitions, catering to players from under-9s through to under-18s. The club is run almost entirely by parent and family volunteers, covering coaching, umpiring, team management and match-day duties, and publishes its Bulldog Bulletin newsletter to keep the football community connected throughout the year.

Toowong
Toowong is a riverside suburb of Brisbane, situated around 5.9 kilometres southwest of the CBD between Mount Coot-tha and the Brisbane River. Home to just over 12,500 residents at the 2021 census, the suburb combines a busy commercial precinct around Toowong Village with quiet residential streets leading up toward Mount Coot-tha.
