About Currie Robins
Origins and Founding
Currie Football Club was established in 1904, making it one of the oldest sporting clubs on King Island. The very first recorded football games on the island were played in 1903 between the Currie and North sides, and when the King Island Football Association was formally organised in 1914, Currie was there as a foundation member. The club has played out of Currie Football Ground in the town of Currie since its earliest days.
 
Club History
Nicknamed the Robins, Currie has long been the benchmark club of the King Island Football Association, with 44 premierships to its name according to official KIFA records, more than any other club in the competition's history. Premiership success stretches from the club's earliest years in 1907 and 1908 through to a run of consecutive flags in 2024 and 2025, keeping the Robins at the top of one of Australia's smallest and most isolated football leagues.
 
Home Ground
The Robins play out of Currie Football Ground in Currie, a ground they have shared with local rivals North since both clubs were formed in 1904. The ground sits in King Island's largest town, only a short drive from King Island Airport, and remains the heart of matchday life on the island each winter.
 
Community and Programs
Operating today as the Currie Football Netball Club Inc., the club fields football and netball teams side by side, giving island families of all ages a reason to get involved on game day. With only three clubs left in the King Island Football Association, Currie's playing group draws heavily on local volunteers, and the club functions as one of the social hubs of a small, tight-knit island community.
 
Currie, King Island
Currie is the administrative centre and largest town on King Island, recording a population of 659 at the 2021 census. Named after Melbourne shipowner Archibald Currie, the town grew up around a natural harbour on the island's west coast and is still home to the historic Currie Lighthouse, built in 1879, along with a working rock lobster fishing fleet. Sitting in Bass Strait between the Victorian and Tasmanian coastlines, Currie is a fitting home for a club that has anchored local football for well over a century.
