When a young Viking reaches a special games milestone or the club comes together for a memorable occasion, FootyBanners.com is ready to help you mark the moment in style. Order your fully personalised Altona Vikings Junior Football Club banner and give every player a keepsake worth celebrating.
Simple to Order
Choose from our Single Player, Two Player, Team, or Grand Final banner options to suit your occasion. For individual banners, simply provide the player's name, surname, guernsey number, and milestone - for example, Jake Williams, #7, 50 Games. Our banners are printed with permanent inks on heavy-duty weatherproof paper, built to hold up even on a bitter Melbourne winter afternoon at the ground.
Two Players, One Banner
Sharing a milestone with a teammate makes it even more special. Our Two Player Banner lets you celebrate two Vikings at once - just supply both players' names, guernsey numbers, and the milestone they're reaching together. It's a fantastic way to honour a pair of club legends on the same day.
Team Banners for Group Celebrations
Got a group of 3 to 6 players hitting a milestone at the same time? Our Team Banner option has you covered. Add a bold top-line message like "Altona Vikings - Rising Stars" and let the whole squad be recognised together. A great way to bring the Vikings community together around a shared achievement.
Wall Keepsake Banners
Available in Small, Medium, and Large, our Wall Keepsake Banners are printed on thick recyclable paper with waterproof inks that won't fade over time. Perfect for hanging in the clubrooms, a garage, or a games room - a lasting reminder of what the Vikings mean to your family.
Grand Final Banners
Available in 4.5m and 5.5m sizes, our Grand Final Banners can be customised with your own top and bottom text to suit the big occasion. Contact us for personalised design advice to make sure your Altona Vikings Junior Football Club banner looks its best on finals day.
About Altona Vikings Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Altona Football Club was founded in 1918 when a group of local businessmen - led by James Duke - gathered at a Pier Street cafe in Altona to establish the club. In its earliest decades the club played under nicknames including "The Seagulls" and "The Seadogs" before later becoming known as "The As." When World War II drew players into the Armed Forces, Altona was expelled from the Western Districts Football League mid-season in 1940 after twice failing to field a team, and entered a recess from 1941 to 1943. In 1944 a revival committee met at Leo Barnes' shop in Pier Street and reformed the club, which rejoined senior competition the following year in the Footscray District Football League (FDFL).
Club History
Altona won its first FDFL premiership in 1947 and steadily climbed through the grades, accumulating multiple flags across the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. In 1988 the club joined the newly formed Western Region Football League (WRFL), and at the club's 1992 AGM it was resolved to amalgamate Altona Football Club with the separately operated Altona City Football Club under the single name Altona Football Club, consolidating all records from both clubs. Competing in what is now the Western Football Netball League (WFNL), the Vikings have added further premierships in 1991, 2004, 2005, 2012, and 2022. The club has produced a long line of VFL and AFL players, including Stuart Magee who played 216 games for South Melbourne and Footscray, Jayden Post (Richmond, 2009-2012), and more recently Trent McKenzie (Gold Coast Suns and Port Adelaide, 2011-2024) and Emerson Jeka (Hawthorn and Geelong, 2020-2024), both products of the Altona Juniors program. Saad El-Hawli joined Essendon in 2025 as the latest Viking to reach the elite level.
Home Ground
The Vikings play their home games at Grant Reserve on Sugar Gum Drive in Altona, a well-established community sports facility in Melbourne's western suburbs. The ground has been the club's home base through its decades in the WFNL, and the Altona Junior Football Club - which runs teams from under-8s through to under-17s - also calls the reserve home, creating a genuine football hub for the local community.
Community and Programs
Altona Junior Football Club operates as a separate entity to the senior club and provides a strong junior pathway in the area, with the Altona Junior Football Club running programs for players from the earliest age groups. The senior club also supports netball through the WFNL's combined football-netball structure, giving women and girls in the Altona community a clear pathway through the club. Together the senior and junior programs make the Vikings one of the most comprehensive football communities on the western fringe of Melbourne.
Altona
Altona is a coastal suburb of Melbourne, situated approximately 13 kilometres southwest of the CBD on the shores of Port Phillip Bay. The suburb takes its name from the former independent city of Altona near Hamburg, Germany. Known for Altona Beach - one of only two swimming beaches in Melbourne's western suburbs - the area has a strong community character shaped by its working-class and multicultural heritage. Altona is part of the City of Hobsons Bay and is well connected to the CBD via the Altona Loop train line.
The Vikings compete in the Western Football Netball League (WFNL) and call Grant Reserve, Sugar Gum Drive, Altona their home. Visit the Altona Vikings official website for news, fixtures, and club information, follow the club on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for match-day photos and club updates.

-
-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
