About Donnybrook Football Club
Origins and Founding
Donnybrook Football Club's history stretches back to 1897, when the town fielded a side in an early Bunbury district competition that folded within a few seasons. Football returned to Donnybrook in 1914, only for the First World War to intervene, and again through the 1920s in a local competition against nearby towns including Balingup, Boyanup and Capel. In March 1953, Donnybrook became one of seven founding clubs of the Bunbury-Collie League, the competition that would grow into today's South West Football League.

Club History
The Bunbury-Collie League expanded into the South West National Football League in 1957 and dropped "National" from its name in 1991, becoming the South West Football League. Donnybrook has won five senior premierships, in 1977, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2018, a history recorded on the club's Wikipedia page. The club also has a place in league folklore: on 25 June 1995, Donnybrook played Augusta-Margaret River in the first night match in South West Football League history. Locally raised Ben Howlett progressed from Donnybrook's junior ranks to a 124-game AFL career with Hawthorn and Essendon, retiring from the league in 2017.

Home Ground
The Dons have played home matches at VC Mitchell Park in Donnybrook for generations. A Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup business case released in December 2024 outlined plans to redevelop the ground, including rebuilding the clubhouse and change rooms, part of the Shire's ongoing investment in local sporting facilities.

Community and Programs
Donnybrook fields junior and colts teams alongside its senior sides, giving local players a pathway from Auskick through to League football. The club broke new ground in 2020, fielding a women's team for the first time when it faced Busselton during the pandemic-shortened season that began on 18 July that year.

Donnybrook
Donnybrook is a town of around 2,786 people (2021 census), located 210 kilometres south of Perth and 38 kilometres from Bunbury in Western Australia's South West. Gazetted in 1894, the town is recognised as the centre of apple cultivation in Western Australia and is known for its avenues of English oak trees and the Apple Fun Park, all within the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup.
