About Lake Macquarie Dockers
Origins and Founding
The Lake Macquarie Dockers were formed in 1997 as the Macquarie Magpies, taking to the field for the first time out of Tulkaba Park in Teralba. The Magpies spent two seasons in the old Newcastle Australian Football League before the club went into recess in 1999.
The following year the club returned as a foundation member of the newly formed Black Diamond Australian Football League, adopting an affiliation with the Adelaide Crows and competing as the Lake Macquarie Crows. In 2011 the club became a New South Wales partner club of the Fremantle Football Club and took on its current name, the Lake Macquarie Dockers.

Club History
The Crows were promoted to First Grade in 2008, and the competition itself was renamed AFL Hunter Central Coast in 2019 having run as the Black Diamond Australian Football League since 2000. The league's showpiece trophy, the Black Diamond Cup, has been contested in the Hunter region since 1888 and is regarded as one of the oldest sporting trophies in Australia.
The Fremantle partnership has delivered some memorable moments, from Olympic sailing gold medallist Iain Jensen signing on as the club's number one ticket holder in November 2012, to a 56-person touring party, including a 21-player squad, travelling to Perth in March 2025 for a curtain-raiser alongside the Fremantle Football Club, the club's first trip to Western Australia in six years. Later that year, junior Docker Alexander Farrell was selected for the Toyota AFL Indigenous and Multicultural Academy in September 2025, one of the pathways the partnership has opened up for local juniors. The senior men currently play in the Black Diamond Plate grade of AFL Hunter Central Coast.

Home Ground
Tulkaba Park on York Street, Teralba, has been home to the club continuously since 1997. Training is held there on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for senior and junior teams alike, and the ground remains the venue for the Dockers' home matches each AFL Hunter Central Coast season.

Community and Programs
The Dockers field junior, senior men's and senior women's teams out of the one club, describing themselves on social media as a place where "all ages, any ability" have been welcome since 1997. Training nights are shared across the age groups at Tulkaba Park, and the long-running partnership with Fremantle has given local juniors access to AFL-level experiences that most suburban clubs never get.

Teralba
Teralba is a suburb of Greater Newcastle within the City of Lake Macquarie, on the northern shore of the lake about 22 kilometres west-south-west of Newcastle. Established in 1831 and connected to the rail network in the 1880s, the town recorded a population of 2,652 at the 2021 census and sits between Speers Point and Booragul.
