About Imperial Football Club
Origins and Founding
Imperial Football Club was formed in 1931 when the Murray Bridge Rovers split into two separate clubs, Imperial and the Rambler Football Club. The two rivals shared the same oval for the next 35 years until Imperial moved to its own ground in 1966.

Club History
Nicknamed the Blues, Imperial competes in the River Murray Football League, which also formed in 1931, and has become the competition's most successful club with 22 premierships between 1931 and 2022, including flags in 2009, 2018 and 2022. Notable alumni include Chad Wingard, who played in Imperial's 2009 premiership team as a 16 year old before being drafted into the AFL with Port Adelaide and later Hawthorn, and Martin Mattner, who went on to play for the Adelaide Crows and Sydney Swans. Imperial's Ash Temby also holds the RMFL's all-time senior games record, playing 390 of his 500 games for the club between 1994 and 2025.

Home Ground
After sharing an oval with the Rambler Football Club for its first 35 years, Imperial moved to Johnstone Park in 1966, giving the Blues their own ground and clubrooms in Murray Bridge for the first time.

Community and Programs
Imperial describes itself as a family friendly, community-oriented club that welcomes players of all experience levels, with registrations opening each year for football in Murray Bridge. The Blues continue to draw on strong local sponsorship from longstanding Murraylands businesses to support the club and its playing groups.

Murray Bridge
Murray Bridge is a city of around 17,457 people (2021 census), located 78 kilometres east-southeast of Adelaide on the Princes Highway linking Adelaide and Melbourne. Known to the Ngarrindjeri people as Pomberuk, the town took its current name in 1924 after the road and rail bridge crossing the Murray River, and today services the surrounding Murraylands farming region.
