About Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club
Origins and Founding
Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club was formed in 1968, entering the Y.C.W. competition before joining the Victorian Amateur Football Association in 1971. The move paid off immediately, with the seniors winning the premiership in the club’s first VAFA season, while forward Peter Gartner kicked 98 goals to claim both the leading goalkicker award and the F Grade Best and Fairest.
 
Club History
The club progressed from F Grade to A Grade in the years that followed, backing up with A Grade premierships in 1974 and 1976. Further flags came in 1985, 1997 and 1998 for the seniors, while the Under 19s added premierships in 1984, 1990, 1999, 2005 and 2011. The 2000s were a standout decade, headlined by the 2001 A Grade premiership under senior coach Simon Dalrymple and back-to-back Bald Eagles masters premierships in 2001 and 2002. In 2017 the club fielded its first women’s team, the Sheagles, who won their Grand Final in a debut season that also saw the Bald Eagles claim the premiership by 13 points. Long-serving figures Ray Walsh and Tim Naughton, and three-time VAFA best and fairest winner Bernie Dinneen, who returned to coach the Senior Men in 2023, are among the names most closely tied to the club, as detailed on the club’s history page.
 
Home Ground
Marcellin plays out of Bray Oval and Lyons Oval at Marcellin College on Bulleen Road, Bulleen, with the West Oval at nearby Bulleen Park also used as a home venue as the club’s list of teams has grown.
 
Community and Programs
Beyond its senior men’s teams, Marcellin fields Reserves and Under 19s sides, the Sheagles women’s team, and the Bald Eagles masters team for players over 35, giving the Bulleen community a football home across almost every age group.
 
Bulleen
Bulleen is a suburb about 13 kilometres northeast of the Melbourne CBD in the City of Manningham, with a population of 11,219 recorded at the 2021 census. The suburb takes its name from the nearby Bolin Bolin Billabong and is home to Marcellin College, the school with which the football club shares its grounds and heritage.
