About Bass Coast Breakers Women's Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Bass Coast Breakers Women's Football Club was founded in 2017 by Ella Angarane and her sister Tess, in response to the lack of local women's football opportunities across the Bass Coast and South Gippsland region of Victoria. Ella had grown up around football through her father's involvement as president and coach of the Dalyston Football Netball Club, but as a child she had been required to sit on the bench on match days despite training with the boys throughout the week. When women's football began gaining traction in Victoria, a request to coach the first youth girls team at her local club rekindled her desire to play, but training and match commitments required travel to Melbourne. With young children at home, that proved unsustainable - and so in 2017 she founded the Breakers to bring women's football to the local community.

Club History

In only their second season of competition, the Bass Coast Breakers won the South-Eastern Women's Division 2 premiership in 2018, a remarkable achievement for a newly established club in a regional area. Two players from that premiership side went on to play AFLW, underlining the quality of football being produced in the South Gippsland corridor. The club has grown steadily, providing an accessible and inclusive environment that caters for players of all experience levels. In 2023, founder and coach Ella Angarane was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in recognition of her outstanding contribution to women's Australian Rules football.

Home Ground

The Breakers are based across the Bass Coast shire, drawing players from Wonthaggi, Inverloch, Dalyston and the surrounding South Gippsland communities. The club competes in competitions administered through AFL Gippsland and the South-Eastern Women's football competition, giving local players a competitive pathway without the need to travel to metropolitan Melbourne.

Community and Programs

The Bass Coast Breakers have built inclusion into the foundation of the club. Uniforms are cut to women's sizing and provided in a range of sizes, fees are kept accessible through sponsorship, and the club actively supports Pride-themed events and inclusive social activities. The club has attracted more than 1,300 Facebook followers and maintains an Instagram presence under @basscoastbreakers, connecting the community across the region. Junior programs continue to grow the club's pipeline of players from the local area.

Bass Coast and South Gippsland

The Bass Coast Shire is a coastal and rural region in South Gippsland, Victoria, situated approximately 130 kilometres south-east of Melbourne. The shire encompasses towns including Wonthaggi (the shire's largest town, population approximately 8,000), Inverloch, Phillip Island and San Remo. The region is known for its rugged coastline, coal mining heritage and agricultural industries, and community sport has traditionally played a central role in connecting isolated rural communities across the shire.

The Breakers compete in South-Eastern Women's competition and are based across the Bass Coast shire. Follow the club on Facebook and on Instagram at @basscoastbreakers.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
