Belconnen Magpies Banners - AFL Canberra's Favourite Magpies

Since forming in 1986, the Belconnen Magpies Football Club has been a proud pillar of the AFL Canberra competition, and FootyBanners.com is here to help the Magpies celebrate every milestone with a custom banner that does justice to the club's passion and community spirit.

Simple to Order

Choose from Single Player, Two Player, Team, or Grand Final banner options and provide the player's name, surname, guernsey number, and milestone (for example, Brock Harrison, #20, 100 Games). Banners are produced with permanent inks on heavy-duty paper that handles a cold Canberra afternoon at Kippax Oval.

Two Players, One Banner

When two Magpies players reach the same milestone in the same match, our Two Player banner celebrates them both together in one great design. Provide both players' details and we'll take care of the rest from there.

Team Banners for Group Celebrations

For groups of 3 to 6 players celebrating a milestone together, our Team Banner option covers everyone in one powerful design. Set a top-line message like "March On Magpies!" and give your squad a run-through to remember.

Wall Keepsake Banners

Available in Small, Medium, and Large, our Wall Keepsake Banners are printed on thick recyclable paper with waterproof inks. A great addition to the Magpies clubrooms at Kippax Oval or a home display celebrating a great career at Belconnen.

Grand Final Banners

When the Magpies are playing for the AFL Canberra flag, step up with a Grand Final banner in 4.5m or 5.5m. Top and bottom text is fully customised for Belconnen Magpies Football Club. Reach out to us early for help with wording and design.

About Belconnen Magpies Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Belconnen Magpies Football Club traces its origins to the Turner Football Club, which was renamed Belconnen in 1970 and admitted to the Canberra Australian National Football League in 1971. Initially known as the "Bees" from 1971 to 1979 and then as the "Blues", the club took on its current Magpies identity in 1986 when it merged with the West Canberra Football Club. The club moved its headquarters to Kippax in 1991, establishing the home base it retains today. A full history of the club is documented on the Wikipedia page for the Belconnen Magpies.

Club History

After forming as the Belconnen Magpies in 1986, the club competed in the AFL Canberra competition for over a decade before claiming its first premiership in 2002. A dominant three-peat followed, with back-to-back-to-back titles in 2002, 2003 and 2004, all grand final victories over the Queanbeyan Tigers at Manuka Oval. The Magpies then claimed their fourth AFL Canberra premiership in 2009, defeating Ainslie by six points. After a 14-year wait, the club secured a fifth title in 2023, defeating Ainslie by 39 points at EPC Solar Park. Several Belconnen alumni have progressed to the AFL, including Jack Steele (GWS Giants and St Kilda), Don Pyke (West Coast Eagles), Logan Austin (Port Adelaide and St Kilda), Matthew Lokan (Collingwood) and Brett Allison (North Melbourne and Sydney).

Home Ground

The Magpies play at The Adero Law Nest (Kippax Oval), located in the Holt suburb within the broader Belconnen district of Canberra. The ground has been the club's home base since the Kippax relocation in 1991. Kippax Oval is part of a well-established sporting precinct in West Belconnen, providing facilities for the club's senior and junior programs.

Community and Programs

Belconnen FC fields senior men's and women's teams in the AFL Canberra competition, as well as junior programs under the Belconnen Magpies Juniors and Belconnen Cats Juniors banners. The club runs NAB Auskick programs for young players and is actively involved in the broader Belconnen community through school partnerships and inclusion initiatives. Their club motto, "Great footy, better people," reflects a commitment to player development and community belonging that extends beyond on-field performance.

Belconnen

Belconnen is one of the major town centres in the Australian Capital Territory, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of the Canberra CBD. It is one of the most populous districts in the ACT, encompassing a large number of suburbs across the north-western part of the city. The Belconnen district is home to the University of Canberra and Westfield Belconnen shopping centre, and borders open farmland and nature reserves to the west. The area has grown steadily since the 1970s as part of Canberra's planned suburban expansion.

The Magpies compete in AFL Canberra and call The Adero Law Nest (Kippax Oval) home. Visit the club website for more information, follow them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for news and match day updates.

  • Footy Banner Information

    📄 Material & Construction

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    • Durable weatherproof sports banners printed on heavy-duty coated paper - these banners are not made of crepe paper.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
