About Brighton Bombers Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Brighton Districts and Old Scholars Football Club - known as the Bombers - was formed in 1991 through the merger of two historic South Australian clubs: the Brighton Football Club, founded in 1885, and the Brighton High Old Scholars Football Club, established in 1968. Brighton FC is one of the oldest football clubs in South Australia, originally playing at a site known as Turner's Paddock. In 1912, Brighton became an inaugural member of the Sturt Football Association. In 1938, Brighton amalgamated with the Seacliff Football Club to form the Brighton and Seacliff Football Club, and that merged entity competed through various district leagues for decades before a further merger in 1991 created today's Brighton Districts and Old Scholars.
Brighton High Old Scholars, the other founding club, was established in 1968 by former students of Brighton High School and entered the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL). The newly merged BDOS club retained the Bombers nickname and has competed continuously since 1991.

Club History
Brighton Districts and Old Scholars competed in the SAAFL from 1991, winning the Division 3 premiership in their inaugural season. In 1994, the club joined the Southern Football League (SFL) in the junior grades, with the senior sides following in 1997. The Bombers claimed the SFL A-Grade premiership in 2002 and again in 2011, establishing themselves as one of the competition's benchmark clubs. In 2017, BDOS transitioned to the Adelaide Footy League (AFL), where they now compete in Division 2.
The club has produced a number of players who progressed to the elite level, including Kane Cornes (Port Adelaide Power), Jarrad Sundqvist (Sydney Swans), Matthew Bode (Adelaide Crows), Ben Kennedy (Collingwood and Melbourne), Bailey Williams (Western Bulldogs), Cory Gregson (Geelong), Jakob Ryan (Collingwood), and Bodie Ryan (Hawthorn).

Home Ground
The Bombers play at Brighton Oval, located in Hove, a suburb immediately adjacent to Brighton in the City of Holdfast Bay. Brighton Oval serves as a central community sporting venue for the southern coastal suburbs, and the Bombers share the precinct with a range of other sporting and recreational clubs. The ground's coastal setting, within walking distance of the beach, gives home-game days a distinctively relaxed seaside atmosphere.

Community and Programs
Brighton Districts and Old Scholars fields both senior and junior programs, with the club's junior arm competing alongside the seniors in the Adelaide Footy League structure. The club actively supports youth pathways, with junior players progressing through age-group competitions before feeding into the senior ranks. BDOS also supports women's football through the Adelaide Footy League, with a women's team competing in Division 2. The club draws participants from Brighton, Hove, South Brighton, and the broader Holdfast Bay catchment.

Brighton and Hove
Brighton is a coastal suburb of Adelaide, situated approximately 11 kilometres south of the city centre in the City of Holdfast Bay. The suburb had a population of 3,834 at the 2021 Census. It sits alongside Holdfast Bay on the Gulf St Vincent coastline, between the suburbs of Hove and Seacliff, and is known for its beach, jetty, surf lifesaving club, and the Brighton-Seacliff Yacht Club. Home games at Brighton Oval attract supporters from across the Holdfast Bay area who enjoy the combination of community football and a coastal setting.
