About Kensington Cardinals Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Kensington Cardinals Junior Football Club was established in 2020 as a new winter football outlet for the Kensington community, growing out of the well-established Kensington Cardinals Baseball Club. The football program was created to give younger members a winter sport while sharing the existing oval and clubroom facilities at Kensington. The Cardinals entered the SANFL Juniors competition in 2020 with an Under 8 team, beginning what would become a rapidly growing junior football club in inner Adelaide.

Club History
Since their 2020 foundation, the Kensington Cardinals have expanded steadily through the SANFL Juniors competition, growing their team numbers across multiple age groups. A major milestone came in 2025 when the club secured Kensington Oval as their dedicated home ground and celebrated their first premiership - the Under 12 Division 4 title - in their first year competing for premiership points. By 2026 the Cardinals field teams in Under 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 age groups, reflecting strong growth in just a few years of operation. The club aims to transition players between baseball and football, building a year-round sporting community at Kensington.

Home Ground
The Kensington Cardinals play at Kensington Oval in Kensington, South Australia, a ground that the club formally secured as their home in 2025. The oval provides a quality playing surface for the growing junior program and is closely associated with the Kensington Cardinals Baseball Club, giving the community a multi-sport hub in the heart of inner-eastern Adelaide.

Community and Programs
The Kensington Cardinals Football Club is a junior-only club, focused entirely on developing young players aged 7 to 13. The club's cross-sport connection with the Kensington Cardinals Baseball Club creates a unique community sporting culture, with many families involved in both sports year-round. The football program runs registrations ahead of each SANFL Juniors season and welcomes players from the Kensington and surrounding suburbs.

Kensington
Kensington is an inner-eastern suburb of Adelaide, located approximately 3 kilometres east of the Adelaide CBD in the City of Burnside. The suburb is characterised by historic bluestone homes, leafy streets, and a strong community identity. Kensington has long been associated with sport - the historic Kensington Football Club dates back to the earliest days of South Australian football in the 1870s. Today, the Kensington Cardinals carry on the suburb's sporting tradition with their growing junior program.
