About Canning South Perth Tigers Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Canning South Perth Football Club has origins dating back to 1905, when the club was founded as the Queens Park Football Club, playing home games on a ground adjacent to where the Carousel Shopping Centre now stands. The Cecil Hotel served as the base for club meetings and administration in those early years. In 1926, to align with the relocation of the local Road Board from Queens Park to Cannington and the construction of the Canning Town Hall, the club changed its name to the Canning District Football Club. The club experienced considerable success during this era, winning five premierships.

Club History

The Canning Football Club competed at the Canning Showgrounds (now the greyhound track) prior to and after World War II, before moving to Coker Park in Wharf Street, Cannington in 1950. The club was a dominant force in the competition from 1944 to 1959, contesting 16 consecutive grand finals during that period. The Victoria Park South Perth Football Club has its own history stretching back to 1931, initially in the WA Amateur League from 1931 to 1966 and winning its first senior premiership in 1947, with back-to-back premierships in 1952 and 1953. The club moved to the South Suburban Murray League in 1967, then joined the WA Football Association in 1971, winning a league premiership in 1972. After the formation of the Sunday Football League in 1984 through the amalgamation of the SSML and WAFA, the club temporarily relocated to Forster Park in Cloverdale in 1989 before returning to Lathlain Park in 1990. At the end of the 2000 season, the Victoria Park South Perth Football Club merged with the Canning Football Club to form the Canning South Perth Tigers.

Home Ground

The Tigers are based at Wyong Oval, which became the club's home ground following the 2000 merger. The ground provides facilities for the club's various senior teams competing in Perth Football League competitions. The club's long history has seen it use numerous grounds across the southern and inner-eastern suburbs of Perth, reflecting the geographic breadth of the communities that have contributed to the Tigers over more than a century.

Community and Programs

The Canning South Perth Tigers maintain an active community presence across the southern Perth suburbs. The club operates senior men's competition teams and has a strong base of long-term supporters from the communities of Cannington, Victoria Park, South Perth and surrounds. The club's Facebook page, under the handle @canningtigers, keeps members and supporters connected with news, results and club activities throughout the season.

Cannington and Surrounds

Cannington is a suburb in the City of Canning, located in the southern inner suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, approximately 10 kilometres south-east of the Perth CBD. The 2021 census recorded a population of approximately 6,875 residents. The suburb is home to the large Carousel Shopping Centre and is a significant commercial and community hub for the southern Perth metropolitan area. The broader City of Canning encompasses several neighbouring suburbs that contribute to the Tigers' supporter base and playing population.

The Tigers compete in Perth Football League competitions and call Wyong Oval home. Visit the club at canningtigers.com.au and follow on Facebook.

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    • Durable weatherproof sports banners printed on heavy-duty coated paper - these banners are not made of crepe paper.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
