About Subiaco Junior Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Subiaco Junior Football Club (Subi JFC) is the junior Australian Rules football pathway for one of Western Australia's most historic footballing communities. The senior Subiaco Football Club was founded in 1896 and admitted to the WAFL in 1901, establishing Subiaco as a powerhouse address in Western Australian football for more than a century. The junior club carries this tradition forward, providing boys and girls in the Subiaco, Shenton Park, and West Leederville community with a structured development pathway from Auskick through to Year 12 competition.
Club History
Subi JFC is directly affiliated with the Subiaco Football Club, one of the WAFL's foundation clubs with one of the most celebrated histories in Western Australian football. The junior club provides the grassroots pipeline into this storied senior program, with players developing through the club's ranks at Subiaco Oval before progressing to local, state, and national level competition. The parent club, Subiaco FC, has produced numerous AFL players across its history, including multiple premiers at WAFL level, and the junior club plays a central role in maintaining this player development tradition in Perth's inner western suburbs.
The 2026 junior season is scheduled to commence on 26 April, with Auskick running from late April through to late August on Sunday mornings at Subiaco Oval.
Home Ground
Subi JFC is based at the iconic Subiaco Oval on Roberts Road, Subiaco - one of the most historically significant football venues in Western Australia. Home games and most Auskick sessions are played at Subiaco Oval, with some training sessions also held at Rosalie Park Oval, adjacent to Aberdare Road. Subiaco Oval is known locally as "the Subi" and sits in the heart of the inner western suburbs of Perth, approximately 4 kilometres west of the Perth CBD.
Community and Programs
The club runs two primary programs: Auskick for children aged 5 to 7, and Junior Football for players from Year 3 through to Year 12. Auskick sessions run on Sunday mornings from 8:30am to 9:30am and focus on kicking, handballing, and marking through games and activities, with parent participation strongly encouraged. Junior Football (Year 3-12) uses modified rules in the early years that evolve as players progress, emphasising participation, teamwork, and fun. Guernseys are provided to all Junior Football participants. Subi JFC is run as a community club, with families expected to contribute to canteen and ground set-up duties throughout the season.
Subiaco
Subiaco is an inner western suburb of Perth, located approximately 4 kilometres from the CBD. It is one of Perth's most vibrant and sought-after residential areas, known for its cafes, boutique shopping along Rokeby Road, and proximity to Kings Park and Bold Park. The suburb has a population of approximately 9,000 people and is surrounded by the neighbouring suburbs of Shenton Park, West Leederville, Jolimont, and Daglish. Subiaco is steeped in football history, with the suburb lending its name to both the WAFL club and the iconic oval that has hosted football for more than a century.
The Lions compete in junior AFL competitions across Perth's inner western suburbs and call Subiaco Oval home. Visit the club website for more information and follow them on Facebook for news and match day updates.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
