About Carlisle Cougars Football Club
Origins and Founding
Carlisle Cougars Football Club is one of the longer-standing community clubs in the Perth Football League, representing the inner-southern Perth suburb of Carlisle within the Perth District. The club has deep historical roots in the local community - Carlisle was first settled after 1829, and football in the area dates back to the mid-twentieth century, with junior coaching activity documented from the early 1940s. The club competes as a mixed-gender outfit, fielding both men's and women's teams in the Perth Football League (PFL), and takes its nickname from the Cougars, a name that has become synonymous with football in this part of Perth.
Club History
Carlisle's historical record in the Perth Football League includes one of the strongest junior pathways in the competition. According to Perth Football League records, the Cougars won five A Colts premierships between 1963 and 1978 - a remarkable run of junior success that stood as one of the most impressive colts records of that era. The club also claimed a D Grade premiership in 1964. In more recent seasons, Carlisle has continued to field competitive squads and develop local talent through all grades. Notable milestones continue to be celebrated at the club, including long-serving player Jordan Grljusich, who reached the 250-game mark for the Cougars - a significant achievement recognised by the Perth Football League in 2025.
Home Ground
The Cougars are based in Carlisle, within the Town of Victoria Park local government area. The club plays its home games in the inner suburbs of Perth, with easy access from Oats Street and the surrounding residential areas. Carlisle's inner-suburban location gives the club a compact, tightly-knit supporter base drawn from the surrounding streets and the broader South Perth corridor.
Community and Programs
Carlisle Cougars Football Club is a mixed-gender club with programs for both men and women through the Perth Football League structure. The club has worked to grow female participation alongside its traditional men's program, in line with the broader push across WA community football to expand women's pathways. The club maintains an active social media presence, engaging its membership via Facebook and Instagram throughout the season.
Carlisle
Carlisle is an inner suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located approximately six kilometres south-east of the Perth CBD and governed by the Town of Victoria Park. Home to around 6,500 residents with a median age of 34, Carlisle is known for its diverse, multicultural character and mix of established homes and newer development. It neighbours East Victoria Park, Lathlain, Bentley, and St James, and is served by the Carlisle train station on the Armadale line. The suburb's proximity to the WACA, Burswood, and the broader inner-ring amenities makes it one of the more central and accessible community football locations in Perth.
The Cougars compete in the Perth Football League (Perth District) and call Carlisle home. Follow Carlisle Cougars on Facebook for match results, news, and updates, and follow them on Instagram for photos and highlights from across the season.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
