About Wembley Magpies

Origins and Founding

The Wembley Football Club entered the Western Australian Football Association - now known as the Perth Football League - in 1927. The club was formed under the umbrella of the Wembley Athletic Club (WAC), a multi-sport organisation that has since grown to incorporate senior and junior football, Wembley Districts Cricket, Wembley Veterans Football, Wembley Netball, and Wembley Basketball. This broad sporting base has given the Magpies a uniquely strong community foundation from the very beginning, with generations of local families participating across multiple codes under the one club structure.

Club History

With 57 premierships across all grades, the Wembley Magpies hold the second highest premiership tally of any club in the Perth Football League - a competition that spans 73 clubs and more than 12,000 registered players. That record of sustained success across nearly 100 years of competition speaks to the depth of footballing culture within the Wembley community. The club currently competes across seven teams, including Colts (under-20), three senior men's divisions (B League, B Reserves, and E1 North), senior women's teams, and a WA All Abilities Football Association team - making the Magpies one of the most inclusive and broad-based clubs in the PFL. Tim Gossage, a Wembley product who went on to become a prominent sports journalist, is among the 100 notable West Australians of amateur football recognised by the PFL in its centenary celebrations in 2021.

Home Ground

The Magpies are based at Wembley Sports Park, located on the corner of Hay and Selby Streets in Jolimont, Western Australia. The facility is recognised as one of the leading club facilities in the Perth Football League, providing high-quality changerooms, social spaces, and playing surfaces for the club's seven senior teams and junior programs. The ground is named for the neighbouring suburb of Wembley, where the club's roots lie, while Jolimont provides easy access from Perth's western inner suburbs.

Community and Programs

The Wembley Football Club operates with more than 250 playing members and has a long-standing commitment to inclusive participation. The addition of an All Abilities team competing in the WA All Abilities Football Association reflects a genuine effort to open the game to players of every background and ability. Junior football runs parallel to the senior program through the Wembley Athletic Club structure, ensuring players have a clear pathway from junior grades through to senior competition. The club's social membership is also open to the broader community, making Wembley Sports Park a lively hub beyond match days.

Wembley and Jolimont

The suburb of Wembley sits approximately 5 kilometres west-north-west of the Perth CBD, within the Town of Cambridge local government area. With a population of around 12,061 at the 2021 census, it is a medium-density inner suburb known for its mix of established homes, local schools, and proximity to Lake Monger. Wembley's neighbour Jolimont - where Wembley Sports Park is located - is a quiet residential pocket that borders Subiaco and West Leederville, offering easy access to both the Perth city centre and the western suburbs. The area has strong sporting traditions, with the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games having been held nearby at Perry Lakes Stadium in Floreat.

The Magpies compete in the Perth Football League (PFL) and call Wembley Sports Park in Jolimont home. Visit the club website for fixtures, news, and membership information, follow them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for match day updates and club news.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
