About Mingenew Bulldogs
Origins and Founding
The Mingenew Football Club - known as the Bulldogs - is one of the oldest sporting institutions in Western Australia's Mid West region, with roots in the local competition dating to the early 1900s. The club competes as part of Mingenew Winter Sports, the community sports organisation that administers football in the town. Mingenew football has long been central to the social life of the district, bringing together farmers, families, and community members from the town itself and surrounding pastoral properties each season.
Club History
The Bulldogs are long-standing members of the North Midlands Football League (NMFL), which brings together clubs from the Mid West including Carnamah/Perenjori, Dongara, Morawa, Coorow, and Mingenew. Country football in the NMFL is fiercely contested and community-driven, with each club representing a distinct patch of the WA Mid West and Midwest farming belt. Mingenew has produced competitive sides throughout the club's history and maintains strong local rivalries with neighbouring NMFL clubs. Follow the club's activities on the Mingenew Winter Sports Facebook page.
Home Ground
The Bulldogs play their home games at the Mingenew Recreation Ground, a community oval that also hosts the Mingenew Races - one of the social highlights of the district's annual calendar. The oval and its facilities serve as a gathering point for the whole community on home game days, and the combination of football and the race meetings makes Mingenew one of the most distinctive sporting communities in the WA Mid West.
Community and Programs
Football in Mingenew operates under the Mingenew Winter Sports umbrella, which also encompasses other winter sports programs in the district. The club fields senior men's sides and in recent seasons has worked to sustain competition rosters in a region where travel distances between clubs can exceed hundreds of kilometres. Volunteers and club supporters from the farming community are the lifeblood of Mingenew football, giving the Bulldogs their resilient, community-first character.
Mingenew
Mingenew is a small agricultural town in Western Australia's Mid West region, located approximately 390 kilometres north of Perth. Situated on the edge of the Mingenew Range, the town sits within a productive dryland farming belt known for wheat, sheep, and wildflower tourism. The town has a population of around 220 people, making it one of the smaller communities in the NMFL, but its football club punches well above its weight in local competition. The Bulldogs compete in the North Midlands Football League and call the Mingenew Recreation Ground home. Follow Mingenew Winter Sports on Facebook for the latest fixtures, results, and club news.

-
-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
