About Central District Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Central District Football Club, nicknamed the Bulldogs, was founded in 1959 and entered the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) in 1964. The club name "Central District" drew on the identity of the Queen's Birthday Holiday Football Carnival, which had been contested by the Gawler, Barossa, Adelaide Plains, and Mid-North Football Leagues. The new club was established to give the fast-growing northern Adelaide suburbs - including Elizabeth, Salisbury, Gawler, and the Barossa Valley - a team to follow in the SANFL. Central's first SANFL season in 1964 was winless, and their first victory came against Woodville in the second round of 1965. The club motto is Yield to None.

Club History

After years of building toward finals contention, Central District broke through for back-to-back SANFL premierships in 1995 and 1996 under the coaching of Neil Craig. The club then entered a dominant era, claiming nine SANFL senior premierships between 2000 and 2010 - in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 - making the Bulldogs one of the most successful SANFL clubs of the modern era. The women's program also achieved SANFL Women's (SANFLW) premiership glory in 2023. The club has produced numerous AFL players from its zone, covering the northern suburbs of Adelaide including Elizabeth, Salisbury, Smithfield, Golden Grove, and extending to Gawler and the Barossa Valley.

Home Ground

Central District plays at X Convenience Oval in Elizabeth, South Australia - affectionately known as "the Ponderosa" by players and supporters. The ground has a capacity of approximately 16,000 and is located in the suburb of Elizabeth in the City of Playford, approximately 25 kilometres north of Adelaide's CBD. Elizabeth Oval is the hub of the club's football operations and has hosted decades of SANFL competition.

Community and Programs

The Central District zone is unique among SANFL clubs in being a single contiguous geographic area covering northern Adelaide's urban suburbs and surrounding rural regions - from Elizabeth and Salisbury to the Barossa Valley and Mid North. The club fields senior men's, women's, and reserves teams in the SANFL and SANFL Women's competitions, and maintains strong connections with community and junior clubs throughout its zone.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth is a suburb within the City of Playford, located approximately 25 kilometres north of Adelaide's CBD. Originally developed in the late 1950s as a planned satellite city to house workers for the nearby Holden car manufacturing plant, Elizabeth grew rapidly and became the anchor of Adelaide's northern suburban corridor. The broader Playford area is one of South Australia's most populous local government areas.

The Bulldogs compete in the SANFL and call X Convenience Oval in Elizabeth home. Visit the club at cdfc.com.au, follow them on Facebook, or find them on Instagram.

  • Footy Banner Information

All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using solvent inks which will not run, even if they get wet.

We recommend taping broomsticks to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it.  if you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through.

On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon!

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
