About Central United Football Club
Origins and Founding
Central United Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Western Australia's Kimberley region, competing in the Central Kimberley Football Association (CKFA). The CKFA serves a network of remote communities spread across the vast Central Kimberley, providing a vital competition for clubs representing Indigenous communities in one of Australia's most geographically challenging environments. Central United has emerged as an active participant in the Association's community football program.
Club History
The Central Kimberley Football Association connects clubs and communities across the central Kimberley, with the competition drawing representation from multiple leagues across the region - a total of 14 local clubs across four leagues at its peak. Central United has been building its junior football program in recent seasons, actively recruiting young players and establishing the infrastructure needed to develop a sustainable pathway from junior to senior football. The club is committed to giving children in the Central Kimberley a structured introduction to the game.
Home Ground
All Central Kimberley Football Association matches are played in the Fitzroy Crossing area. Fitzroy Crossing serves as the competition's central hub, with the Fitzroy Crossing Recreation Centre and its oval hosting CKFA fixtures throughout the season. The ground, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Kimberley landscape, is shared by multiple clubs in the competition.
Community and Programs
Central United's most visible community initiative in recent seasons has been building its junior football program from the ground up. The club has called on families with children interested in playing in 2025 to come forward, with the goal of establishing a strong junior pathway that feeds into the senior competition. This grassroots focus reflects the CKFA's broader mission of using football as a tool for community engagement, wellbeing, and cultural connection across the Central Kimberley.
Fitzroy Crossing
Fitzroy Crossing is a remote town in the central Kimberley region of Western Australia, situated on the Fitzroy River approximately 400 kilometres east of Broome. The town serves as a service hub for a large area of remote Aboriginal communities and has a population of around 1,200 people. The Kimberley is known for its dramatic scenery including the Fitzroy River gorge and Geikie Gorge National Park nearby. Football is a significant cultural touchstone for communities throughout the region, and the CKFA competition reflects that importance.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
