South Melbourne Bloods Banners - Honouring the Legacy of the Bloods
The South Melbourne Bloods carry a proud football tradition, and every milestone celebrated at this club is worth marking in style. FootyBanners.com creates custom banners for the Bloods that capture the passion and commitment every player brings to pulling on the famous guernsey.
Simple to Order
Ordering your South Melbourne Bloods banner is a simple process. Choose from Single Player, Two Player, Team, or Grand Final banner styles. For player banners, supply the player's name, surname, guernsey number, and milestone - for example, Ben Turner, #6, 100 Games. All banners are made with permanent inks on heavy-duty weatherproof paper, ready for anything from a crisp Melbourne winter morning to a warm autumn grand final day.
Two Players, One Banner
Two Bloods players sharing a milestone is twice the reason to celebrate. Our Two Player Banner lets you honour both at the same time. Simply provide both players' names and guernsey numbers - the milestone game must be the same for both - and we'll craft a quality banner that captures the moment perfectly.
Team Banners for Group Celebrations
Our Team Banner covers 3 to 6 players and is ideal for end-of-season presentations and milestone rounds. A top-line message such as "South Melbourne Bloods - Club Legends" gives the banner gravitas and makes every player on it feel truly valued by the club.
Wall Keepsake Banners
Available in Small, Medium, and Large, Wall Keepsake Banners are printed on thick recyclable paper with waterproof inks. Whether they hang in the Bloods clubrooms or in a player's home, these are banners that will be treasured for years to come.
Grand Final Banners
Available in 4.5m and 5.5m sizes, our Grand Final Banners can be fully customised with the South Melbourne Bloods' top and bottom text. Reach out for design advice so your banner is ready to make a mark on the biggest day of the season.
About South Melbourne Bloods Football Club
Origins and Founding
The South Melbourne Districts Football Club, nicknamed the Bloods (and historically the Swans), was formally established in 1912, though its origins can be traced back to the Pembroke Juniors who played in the mid-1890s. The club entered the Victorian Junior Football Association (VJFA) in 1914 and contested its first grand final that same year, losing to Port Melbourne Railway United by 51 points. After another grand final appearance in 1922, the club won its first premiership in 1924 with a 33-point victory over Hawthorn Juniors. From its earliest years, South Melbourne Districts maintained a close relationship with the senior South Melbourne Football Club - now the Sydney Swans - with many players passing between the two clubs across the decades. The famous Australian rules identity Roy Cazaly, one of the game's legends, is among the notable players associated with the club's early history.
Club History
After decades in the VJFA and its successor competitions, South Melbourne Districts joined the Metropolitan Football League (MFL) in 1950. In 1974 the club moved to the South East Suburban Football League (SESFL), where it won the Division 2 premiership in 1976 and a second flag in 1983. Following the SESFL's evolution into the Southern Football League (SFL) in 1992, the club competed in the expanded SFL until the end of the 1999 season, when it made the move to the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). The Districts made an immediate impact in the VAFA, winning the premiership in their very first VAFA season in 2000. They then went back-to-back with a Division 3 premiership in 2006 and a Division 2 premiership in 2007. As of 2025, the men's team competes in Division 2 of the VAFA, while the women's side competes in Division 3 of the VAFA Women's competition. Notable former players who have gone on to the AFL include Murphy Reid (Fremantle Dockers) and Charlie Clarke (Western Bulldogs).
Home Ground
South Melbourne Districts play at Lindsay Hassett Oval in South Melbourne - a ground named after the legendary Australian cricketer who was associated with the area. The oval is a well-established community sports facility located within inner Melbourne, convenient to members and supporters from across Melbourne's inner south and bayside suburbs. The ground hosts the club's senior men's and women's football programs as well as serving as a hub for the club's broader community activities.
Community and Programs
South Melbourne Districts is a multi-sport community club, with programs spanning football, athletics, and cricket - making it one of the more versatile community sports organisations in Melbourne's inner suburbs. The football programs cover senior men's and women's teams in the VAFA, as well as juniors competing in the South Melbourne Junior Football League (SMJFL). The women's program was established in 2017 when the club entered the inaugural VAFA Women's season, finishing third in Division 4. The club's motto - "Onward To Victory" - reflects its competitive spirit and long tradition of development. The Bloods also participate in Auskick programs, providing an entry point into Australian football for younger members of the South Melbourne community.
South Melbourne
South Melbourne is an inner suburb of Melbourne, located approximately 3 kilometres south of the Melbourne CBD, within the City of Port Phillip local government area. Known for its Victorian-era terrace homes, the historic South Melbourne Market (which has operated since 1867), and its strong community identity, South Melbourne is one of Melbourne's most well-established inner neighbourhoods. The suburb has a population of around 12,000 and sits between the Melbourne CBD and the Port Phillip Bay foreshore, with Albert Park Lake and the St Kilda Road arts and cultural precinct nearby. The club's long history in the suburb means it is deeply embedded in the social fabric of South Melbourne.
The Bloods compete in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) and call Lindsay Hassett Oval, South Melbourne home. Visit the club website for more information, follow them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for news and match day updates.

Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
