About Cranbourne Eagles Girls
Origins and Founding
The Cranbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Eagles, was founded on 10 May 1889, making it one of the oldest Australian rules football clubs in Melbourne's south-east. The club became a founding member of the Berwick District Football Association in 1910. The Eagles' girls and women's program has grown significantly in recent decades, with the club fielding girls teams across age groups and a senior women's side that won the Victorian Women's Football League premiership in 2015. Cranbourne currently competes in the Southern Football Netball League (SFNL).
Club History
The Cranbourne Eagles have competed across multiple leagues throughout their history. After forming in 1889, the club joined the South West Gippsland Football League in 1953 as an inaugural member and dominated that competition for decades, winning eight flags (1966, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993). The club joined the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League's Casey Cardinia division, winning that division in 2011. In 2015, the club moved to the South East Football Netball League (SEFNL) and won the inaugural SEFNL grand final in 2016 over rivals Berwick. Following the SEFNL's merger with the Yarra Valley Mountain District FL in 2019, the Eagles competed in the Outer East FL until 2021, before joining the SFNL in 2022 and immediately winning the SFNL Division 1 premiership that year. The women's program won the Victorian Women's Football League flag in 2015.
Home Ground
The Eagles are based at Livingston Reserve in Cranbourne, which serves as the home ground for both senior and junior programs. The reserve is a well-established community sporting facility that hosts football and netball across multiple age groups. Cranbourne's growth as a suburb has brought expanded club membership and facilities development over recent years.
Community and Programs
The Cranbourne Football Club operates one of the most comprehensive programs in Melbourne's south-east, encompassing senior men's and women's competition teams, an extensive junior program through the Cranbourne Junior Football Club, and girls football teams at multiple age groups. The Eagles girls program has produced talent at state league level and is well regarded within the SFNL community. The club's junior program produced Tyabb Yabbies U16 Grand Final opponents in 2024 and maintains close ties with the local school and youth sporting network in Cranbourne.
Cranbourne
Cranbourne is a rapidly growing outer suburb of Melbourne located approximately 45 kilometres south-east of the CBD, within the City of Casey local government area. The suburb has experienced significant population growth over the past two decades and is one of Australia's fastest-growing residential corridors. Cranbourne is a commercial and service hub for the outer south-east, home to a racecourse, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, major retail precincts, and strong community sporting infrastructure.

-
-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
