About Dallas Football Club
Origins and Founding
Dallas Football Club was established in 2024 as a new junior Australian rules football club competing in the Essendon District Football League (EDFL), one of Victoria's largest community football competitions. The club evolved directly from the Hume Crescent Auskick Centre, which had a successful inaugural year at Jacana Reserve in 2023. According to Star Weekly Northern, Dallas FC was one of two clubs welcomed into the EDFL in 2024, alongside the Merrifield Panthers. The club's founding president, Nabil Yassine, established it with a clear mission to bring football to multicultural communities in the Broadmeadows area that had previously had little exposure to the game.
Club History
Dallas FC is a young club with a deliberate and community-first approach to growth. In its first EDFL season in 2024, the club fielded under-8 and under-10 sides at Jacana Reserve, with the long-term vision of building from a junior program into a fully fledged senior club. Club president Nabil Yassine noted that the changing demographics of the Dallas area provided a unique opportunity: "In the changing demographic of the area we've been able to reach out to different communities and engage them through football." The club has forged a partnership with the Essendon Football Club (AFL) through a community collaboration announced in March 2024, giving the Bombers a direct link to promoting local football participation in the area. EDFL chief executive Andrew Johnson praised Dallas FC's formation as an extension of the successful Auskick footprint already established at Jacana Reserve.
Home Ground
Dallas Football Club plays its home games at Jacana Reserve, the club's base in the Dallas suburb of Melbourne. Jacana Reserve has a history of Australian rules football, having previously hosted the Jacana Football Club, which was founded in 1961 as a junior club. The reserve provides a community hub for junior football in the area and sits within the broader Hume City Council precinct.
Community and Programs
Dallas FC was founded with an explicit focus on inclusion and community engagement. The club's stated goal is to provide football opportunities for children from newly arrived and non-English-speaking backgrounds in the Broadmeadows area, with school engagement programs targeting primary schools in the vicinity. As the club's president noted, addressing youth disengagement - particularly in an area like Broadmeadows that has historically faced socioeconomic challenges - is a central part of the club's purpose. The club has worked with AFL Victoria, the EDFL, and Hume City Council to build a sustainable grassroots football program.
Dallas, Victoria
Dallas is a suburb of Melbourne located approximately 17 kilometres north of the CBD in the City of Hume. It is part of the broader Broadmeadows area, which encompasses a diverse, multicultural community and has been the focus of significant investment in community services and infrastructure. The suburb sits within the northern growth corridor of Melbourne, bordered by suburbs including Broadmeadows, Hadfield, and Coolaroo. The Hume City Council area has a population of over 230,000 people from more than 150 different cultural backgrounds, making Dallas FC's multicultural approach to football particularly resonant in the local context.

Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
