About Dromana Football and Netball Club
Origins and Founding
The Dromana Football and Netball Club, known as the Tigers, was formed in the mid to late 1880s on the Mornington Peninsula and joined an association of clubs in 1896. This makes Dromana one of the older continuously operating football clubs in Victoria, having played Australian rules football on the Peninsula almost without interruption for well over 130 years - only pausing during the war years of the First and Second World Wars.
The club's archive of match records dates back to 1908, when Dromana contested matches against Flinders and other early Peninsula clubs, reflecting the deep roots of the game in this coastal district. The club has been known as the Dromana Tigers throughout the modern era and competes as a member of the First Division of the Mornington Peninsula Football Netball League (MPFNL).
Club History
Across more than 130 years of competition, the Tigers have contested multiple grand finals and claimed premierships in 1939, 1964, 1970, 1995, 2004, 2006, and 2016. The club's records document matches against Red Hill (1939 grand final), Somerville (1970), Rosebud (2006), Sorrento (2016), Carrum Downs (2004), and Mt Eliza (1995). Former VFL/AFL field umpire Rowan Sawers began his career at Dromana. The MPFNL has undergone several name changes from the Peninsula Football Association in Dromana's early years through to the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League, before adopting the current MPFNL branding. Netball was introduced to the club in 2009 and has since become an integral arm of the Dromana Football and Netball Club, with senior netball sides participating in MPNA finals in recent seasons.
Home Ground
The Tigers play at Dromana Recreation Reserve in Dromana, a facility the club has called home for much of its long history. The reserve features oval facilities suitable for both football and netball competition. On training nights (Tuesday and Thursday evenings), the ground serves as the club's hub for players and volunteers. The reserve is set near the centre of the Dromana township, close to the foreshore and the broader Mornington Peninsula lifestyle that makes this one of Victoria's most popular coastal regions.
Community and Programs
The Dromana FNC operates junior football sides affiliated with the Mornington Peninsula Junior Football League, providing a direct pathway from junior to senior ranks. The club's girls and women's football programs have expanded in recent seasons, aligned with the broader growth of women's football across the MPFNL. The active history project hosted on the club website documents the stories and contributions of members across more than a century of club life, ensuring that the community connection between the Tigers and the Dromana area is well preserved for future generations.
Dromana
Dromana is a coastal town on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, located approximately 70 kilometres south of Melbourne's CBD on the eastern shore of Port Phillip Bay. Known for the chairlift to Arthur's Seat, its surf beaches, and holiday township character, Dromana is a popular destination for both year-round residents and Melbourne day-trippers. The Mornington Peninsula Shire encompasses the town, and its growing permanent population reflects the ongoing sea-change migration that has defined the Peninsula's growth in recent decades.
The Tigers compete in the MPFNL Division 1 and play at Dromana Recreation Reserve. For more information visit the Dromana Tigers website, or follow the club on Facebook.

Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
