About Dunsborough Sharks Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Dunsborough Football Club was started in the 1980s, growing out of informal beach-side footy that became a fixture of life in coastal Dunsborough when the surf wasn't pumping. The Mulies Onshore Cup team was the original competition the club played in, and that side remains a key part of the club's culture today. From these origins, the Sharks have developed into what the club describes as the fastest-growing football club in Western Australia and the largest regional club in the state, according to their official club page.
Club History
In October 2021, the Dunsborough Football Club was admitted into the South West Football League (SWFL) in a 7-3 vote by member clubs, joining as the competition's eleventh side. The Sharks fielded Women's, Colts, and Reserves teams in 2022 before their full League team entered the SWFL in 2023. The Mulies Onshore Cup side has regularly brought home the Onshore Cup in recent years, and the Masters Ducks team ensures veteran players remain connected to the club. The Sharks compete in junior competitions through both the Busselton Junior District Football Association (BDJFA) and the South West Junior Football League (SWJFL), with approximately 30 junior teams fielded across age groups.
Home Ground
The Dunsborough Football Club plays its home games at Dunsborough Playing Fields in Dunsborough, which also serves as the base for Auskick sessions held every Saturday morning during the junior season. The ground is the hub of all club activity, from the youngest Auskick participants through to senior League, Women's, and Colts competitions. The facilities support a full pathway from grassroots to the SWFL.
Community and Programs
The Sharks run one of the most comprehensive football development programs in regional Western Australia. Auskick caters for children from Pre-Primary through to Year 2, followed by Junior Sharks teams for Years 3 to 9 competing in the BDJFA against local clubs including Vasse, Countrys, Saints, Wanderers, and Towns. From Year 10, players enter the SWJFL pathway, which also hosts Women's teams from Year 6/7 through to Year 11/12. The Mulies Onshore Cup team and the veteran Ducks Masters side round out a club that genuinely has a team for every stage of life. The club's vision is to be "the home of AFL in Dunsborough" - a family-friendly, inclusive environment for players of all backgrounds.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
