About East Perth Royals Football Club
Origins and Founding
The East Perth Football Club was founded in 1902 as the Union Football Club, competing in the Perth Third Rate Association before being promoted to the First Rate Association. The club joined the West Australian Football League in April 1906, adopting the East Perth name and the Royals nickname in line with the WAFL's district based club system.

Club History
East Perth has won 17 WAFL premierships, most recently in 2002, including five consecutive flags between 1919 and 1923 under captain coach Phil Matson. Notable players to represent the Royals include Graham Farmer, Kevin Murray and Barry Cable, along with Dean Cox, who won the club's Simpson Medal in 2000. From 2014 to 2018 East Perth served as the WAFL host club for the West Coast Eagles, and the Royals finished runners up in both the 2024 and 2025 WAFL Grand Finals.

Home Ground
East Perth began playing home games at Leederville Oval from 2000, officially moving there in 2003 after decades based at Perth Oval between 1910 and 2002. The club now shares Leederville Oval with the Subiaco Football Club.

Community and Programs
Alongside its WAFL men's program, East Perth fields a team in the WAFL Women's competition, giving female players from Perth's inner northern suburbs a pathway into elite level Australian rules football.

Leederville
Leederville is a suburb of Perth within the City of Vincent, about 3 kilometres north west of the Perth central business district. Named after original landholder William Henry Leeder, the suburb recorded a population of 3,686 at the 2021 census.
