About Echunga Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Echunga Football Club was founded in 1903 by gold diggers who brought Australian rules football to the small Adelaide Hills town of Echunga, South Australia. The game had been played informally in the area before the club's formal establishment, with challenge matches against neighbouring towns taking place for two decades before a structured competition emerged. The Hills Central Football Association was founded in 1923, and Echunga was a founding member. The club was a founding member of the Hills Football League when it was formed in 1967 through the amalgamation of several neighbouring associations.

Club History
Known as the Demons, Echunga FC has built a rich premiership record across its 120-plus year history. The club won 16 A-Grade premierships, including an impressive post-war run of six flags between 1945 and 1955, and another cluster in the modern era with titles in 1995, 1996, 2000, 2011, 2013, and 2014. The club has featured in 33 A-Grade grand finals in total. In 2014, the club made national headlines when it won the Hills Football League premiership and simultaneously fought a Supreme Court challenge over proposed relegation to a lower division - ultimately prevailing in both. The B-Grade side has been equally consistent, claiming flags in 1968, 1975, 1979, 2000, and 2024, while junior colts and senior colts programs have produced premiership success throughout the club's history.

The Demons play at Echunga Oval, located on Echunga Road in the town of Echunga. The ground sits in a classic Adelaide Hills setting, surrounded by native vegetation and rolling countryside. Echunga Oval has hosted the club's matches for generations and serves as the central gathering point for the tight-knit Echunga community on match days. Community and Programs
Echunga FC supports a full range of junior programs including Auskick and teams from Under 8 through to Under 18 Colts, providing a continuous pathway from the earliest ages through to senior level. The club's broad junior structure reflects its deep roots in the local community and its commitment to developing players through the Hills Football League pathway. The Demons also play a central social role in the Echunga district, with the oval and clubrooms serving as gathering points for residents throughout the year.

Echunga is a small town in the Adelaide Hills, located 34 kilometres south-east of Adelaide in South Australia. The town has a population of approximately 571 (2021 census data). Situated in the Battunga region alongside Meadows and Macclesfield, Echunga is known for its gold rush heritage, quiet rural character, and scenic hills landscape. The area is part of the Adelaide Hills Council local government area.
