About Ellenbrook Eels Women's Football

Origins and Founding

The Ellenbrook Senior Football Club was established in 2002 following initial interest from three local residents - Vaughan Roberts, Ben Franks, and Troy Newick. The club's very first game took place in 2001 through the Mercantile competition, with players wearing loaned Footscray jumpers before acquiring their own kit. The Eels compete in the Perth Football League (PFL), fielding three senior men's teams, a women's team, and a colts team. The women's program began in 2021 and has grown steadily since its inception, with the Eels' women's side playing out of the same Ellenbrook base as the men's program.

Club History

The Ellenbrook Eels claimed their first premiership in 2011, when the reserves team won the C4 Reserves Grand Final - a milestone celebrated as the club's 10-year anniversary achievement. The club followed that with C3 Reserves premierships in 2012, 2014, and 2017. The women's program, which began fielding a team in 2021, is coordinated through the senior club structure and competes in Perth Football League women's competition. The Eels have been coached in the women's program by Craig Lawrence (2021), Shane Glanville (2022), and Chris McCarthy from 2023 onward. The club also operates a Masters program for players aged 35 and over, catering to the broader community of experienced players in the Ellenbrook area.

Home Ground

The Eels play at the Ellenbrook District Open Space (known locally as "The DOS"), located on Maffina Parade, Ellenbrook WA. The club moved to this venue after earlier years at Woodlake Oval for training and Baskerville Oval for games, with Coolamon Oval also used as an interim ground. The DOS is a purpose-built community sporting precinct that serves as the hub for all of the club's football, social, and community activities. The Eels' dark blue jumper, featuring an eel logo in a Fremantle-inspired colour scheme, was designed in 2003 by then-player Ray Cappeau and has become a recognisable identity on Perth's northern footy circuit.

Community and Programs

The Ellenbrook Eels pride themselves on being a family-based club, hosting regular events including family gala days, Auskick half-time matches, and Saturday night family dinners. Three senior men's grades, a women's team, and a colts team give players of all levels a home at the club. The Masters program provides a social football option for those aged 35 and over. The club describes Ellenbrook as a young suburb, and the Eels have been one of the institutions that has helped build community identity and sporting culture in the area since the suburb's early development years.

Ellenbrook

Ellenbrook is a suburb in the City of Swan, located approximately 28 kilometres north-east of Perth's CBD. It is one of Perth's largest master-planned residential communities, established from the mid-1990s onwards as part of the Swan Valley development corridor. With a population of around 35,000 people, Ellenbrook is known for its modern residential estates, extensive parks and open spaces, and the Ellenbrook Town Centre. The suburb borders the Upper Swan River area and is serviced by the Ellenbrook Bus Rapid Transit network, connecting residents to Midland and central Perth.

The Eels compete in the Perth Football League and call the Ellenbrook District Open Space, Maffina Parade home. Visit the club at ellenbrookeels.com.au, follow them on Facebook, or on Instagram.

    📄 Material & Construction

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    • Durable weatherproof sports banners printed on heavy-duty coated paper - these banners are not made of crepe paper.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy
