About Greenacres Dragons Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Greenacres Football Club, known as the Dragons, was established in 1965 in the northern Adelaide suburb of Greenacres. According to the club's own history, the club was started from the garage of founding member Ron Evans, who gathered local football enthusiasts together to form a club that could represent the fast-growing Greenacres community. The club adopted the Dragons as their nickname and has competed continuously in South Australian amateur football ever since, growing from that humble single-garage origin into a well-established club with men's, women's, and junior programs. The club's motto "Nunquam Victus" - Never Beaten - reflects the fighting spirit that has underpinned the Dragons since their foundation.

Club History

The Greenacres Football Club has spent its entire history in the South Australian Amateur Football League and its successor, the Adelaide Footy League. Over six decades in the competition, the Dragons have risen and fallen through the league's divisional structure, building a record of premierships across multiple grades throughout their history. The club fields men's teams in the AFL's Div 5 competition and has developed a strong women's program as the Adelaide Footy League's women's competition has expanded in recent years. Greenacres has maintained a continuous presence in the competition since 1965, a testament to the strength of the community support that has sustained the club from its early days in Ron Evans' garage.

Home Ground

Greenacres FC plays its home matches at grounds in the Greenacres and broader Tea Tree Gully council area in Adelaide's north-eastern suburbs. Greenacres is well-served by recreational reserves and sporting facilities, providing the Dragons with a strong home base in the community that founded the club in 1965. The club's facilities serve as a hub for community football and social activities throughout the season, continuing the community-centred spirit that gave rise to the Dragons more than 60 years ago.

Community and Programs

The Greenacres Dragons field multiple men's grades, a women's team, and junior sides in the Adelaide Footy League and associated competitions, providing a comprehensive football pathway for the local community. The club runs a junior development program that feeds players through to the senior ranks, with many Dragons players having spent their entire football careers within the club from junior level through to senior football. The Dragons maintain an active social program and club community, with members and supporters gathering at club events throughout the year. Women's football has become an increasingly important part of the Greenacres program, with the club investing in its female players as the sport grows across South Australia.

Greenacres

Greenacres is a northern suburb of Adelaide, situated approximately 9 kilometres north-east of the Adelaide CBD within the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. The suburb was developed primarily in the post-World War II era as Adelaide expanded northward, with the Greenacres Shopping Centre established in 1967 as one of the first major suburban shopping centres in South Australia. The area is characterised by well-established residential streets and significant community sporting infrastructure. Greenacres is bordered by Lightsview, Hampstead Gardens, Manningham, and Hillcrest, and sits close to the Regency Road and Main North Road corridors that connect the suburb to the wider metropolitan area.

  • Footy Banner Information

Material:  All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using permanent inks which will not run, even if they get wet.  They are fully recyclable.

How to Use:  We recommend taping broomsticks or plastic pipe to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it.  If you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through.  There are instructions and images for how to cut these in the FAQ section below.

On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon!  This is why we do not pre-cut them, and also so you can get photographs with your intact banner when it looks at it's best.

Tip: Some players choose to only cut one weak spot in their banner so it can be saved and displayed later by taping it back together on the back.

Pro Tip:  Cut the weak spot to one side of the mascot or team logo so it stays intact as well!

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
