About Hammond Park Hurricanes Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Hammond Park Hurricanes Football Club had its origins in 2008, when approximately 15 children came down to a new patch of grass in the newly established suburb of Hammond Park for informal kick-to-kick sessions. By the end of that first year, the group had settled on a name - the Hammond Park Hurricanes - along with the club's guernsey design. In 2009 the club officially registered as an Auskick centre, with around 40 children participating weekly. The club was incorporated in 2010, formally establishing the Hurricanes as a permanent fixture in the community. Participation grew rapidly to 80 players in 2010, including a Year 4 team that entered the South Fremantle District competition - the club's first competitive footy team.
Club History
By 2013 the Hammond Park Hurricanes had more than 200 registered players, with 165 of them Auskickers, placing the club in the top three for clubs in the South Fremantle district. Growth continued steadily and by 2022 the club recorded over 840 members - 272 in Auskick, 521 in the junior and youth programs, and 51 in a Masters competition that launched in 2022, primarily comprising fathers of current players. The 2022 season was also historically successful on the field, delivering two premierships: the Year 7 White team claimed a grand final victory, and the Year 8 White team won the club's first Division 1 premiership. In 2025/2026 a Colts program was introduced, expanding the club's pathway into the WAFL Colts competition.
Home Ground
The Hurricanes play at Frankland Park Sporting and Community Facility, which became the club's permanent home in 2022 after earlier years of operating without dedicated facilities. The facility, also known as Botany Park, is shared with the Hammond Park Football Club senior side. The move to Frankland Park represented a major milestone for the club after years of limited infrastructure during its rapid growth phase.
Community and Programs
The Hammond Park Hurricanes field All-Girls teams and nominate sides in every year group from Pre-primary through Year 8. The club's Auskick program has consistently been one of the largest in its district, reflecting the strong demand for junior football in the growing community. The Hurricanes have built a reputation for their family-friendly, inclusive culture - a direct product of the club's grassroots founding culture where community spirit took priority alongside sporting development.
Hammond Park
Hammond Park is a southern suburb of Perth in the City of Cockburn, established as a distinct suburb in March 2002 and named after James Hammond, a pioneer of the Jandakot district who settled there in 1887. With a recorded population of 6,985 at the 2021 census, the suburb has grown rapidly since its creation and now has multiple primary schools and a secondary college. Hammond Park sits in Perth's expanding southern corridor, surrounded by Beeliar, Success, Atwell, and Aubin Grove.
The Hurricanes compete in the South Fremantle District competition and call Frankland Park, Hammond Park home. For more information, visit hammondparkjfc.com.au, or connect on Facebook and Instagram.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
