Koonibba Roosters Football Club Banners - Honour a Living Legend of Australian Football
When a Koonibba Roosters player hits a significant milestone, mark the moment with a custom banner from FootyBanners.com. Whether it is 50 games, 100 games, or a career defining round, a personalised Roosters banner makes the occasion unforgettable for the whole community.
Simple to Order
Getting your banner is straightforward. Choose a Single Player Banner and provide the player's name, surname, guernsey number, and milestone - for example, Marcus Cooper, #11, 50 Games. Our banners feature permanent inks on heavy-duty, weatherproof paper, designed to hold up under the blazing South Australian outback sun on game day.
Two Players, One Banner
If two Roosters are celebrating the same milestone round, our Two Player Banner is the ideal choice. Provide both players' names and guernsey numbers and we will create a quality banner that proudly honours both players at once.
Team Banners for Group Celebrations
Our Team Banner lets you celebrate a group of between 3 and 6 players on a single banner. A top-line message such as "Go Roosters!" unites the whole squad and club behind the occasion - perfect for a landmark round at Koonibba.
Wall Keepsake Banners
Available in Small, Medium, and Large, our Wall Keepsake Banners are printed on thick recyclable paper with waterproof inks. They make a wonderful addition to the clubrooms or a player's home, preserving the memory of a proud day for the Roosters and the Koonibba community for years to come.
Grand Final Banners
FootyBanners.com produces Grand Final Banners in both 4.5m and 5.5m widths, with fully customised top and bottom text for the Koonibba Football Club. Contact us before finals time for design guidance and we will help make the occasion special.
About Koonibba Roosters Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Koonibba Football Club was founded in 1906 and first competed in the County of Way Football Association in 1909, making it the oldest surviving Aboriginal football club in Australia. The club was established with support from the Lutheran missionaries at the Koonibba Mission, which had been founded in 1901 on land in far west South Australia. Lutheran pastors and community leaders helped organise early matches against teams from Denial Bay, Charra, Penong, and Ceduna, and the club has been a cornerstone of Koonibba community life ever since.
Club History
The Roosters have accumulated 34 premierships in the Western Eyre Football League (formerly the Far West Football League) - more than any other club in the competition's history. Their premiership years include 1910, 1922, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1928, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1954, 1956, 1957, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1982, 1988, 1990, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2017. In 2009, to mark one hundred years of competition, the club unveiled its Team of the Century, honouring 23 past and present players who had represented Koonibba across the decades. Notable connections include AFL Brownlow Medallist and premiership player Gavin Wanganeen, whose great-grandfather played for the club.
Home Ground
The Roosters play their home games at the Far West Aboriginal Sporting Complex in Thevenard, the port town adjacent to Ceduna on the Eyre Peninsula. While the club's roots lie in the Koonibba community itself, the Far West Aboriginal Sporting Complex has served as the club's competition ground in recent decades, providing a central location accessible to all league clubs. Thevenard sits on the western shore of Murat Bay, approximately 5 kilometres from Ceduna.
Community and Programs
Koonibba Football Club is far more than a sporting organisation - it is a living expression of Aboriginal cultural identity and community pride in far west South Australia. The club has provided a pathway for Aboriginal athletes to participate in organised Australian rules football since 1906, and continues to nurture footballing talent across generations of Koonibba families. The club's longevity and success stand as a testament to the determination and resilience of the Koonibba community.
Koonibba
Koonibba is a small Aboriginal community located 38 kilometres northwest of Ceduna in the far west of South Australia, on the traditional lands of the Wirangu, Mirning, and Kokatha peoples. With a population of approximately 140 residents as of the 2021 census, it is one of the more remote communities in South Australia. The community was established in 1901 as a Lutheran mission station on a 16,000-acre block, and its deep ties to the land and its people have shaped the character of the football club that has carried its name for over a century.
The Roosters compete in the Western Eyre Football League and call the Far West Aboriginal Sporting Complex, Thevenard, home. Follow them on Facebook for match results, club news, and community updates.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
