Kew Rovers Banners - Celebrate Every Milestone at Stradbroke Park
When a Kew Rovers player hits a milestone worth shouting about, FootyBanners.com is your first call. Whether it's a 50-game achievement or a season grand final, we'll create a fully personalised Rovers banner that players and families will keep long after the final siren.
Simple to Order
Ordering your Rovers banner couldn't be easier. Choose from Single Player, Two Player, Team, or Grand Final banner styles. Just provide the player's name, surname, guernsey number, and milestone - for example, Riley Nicholson, #9, 100 Games. Every banner is printed with permanent inks on heavy-duty weatherproof paper, ready to survive a blustery Melbourne winter morning at Stradbroke Park without a second thought.
Two Players, One Banner
When two Rovers reach the same milestone on the same day, our Two Player Banner has both of them covered. Supply each player's name and guernsey number, and we'll produce one quality banner celebrating them both in style.
Team Banners for Group Celebrations
For group milestones, the Team Banner option suits 3 to 6 players in a single custom design. Kick it off with a bold top-line message like "ROVERS - PRIDE OF KEW" and close with a tagline that brings the whole club together on a big game day.
Wall Keepsake Banners
Our Wall Keepsake Banners come in Small, Medium, and Large sizes, printed on thick recyclable paper with long-lasting waterproof inks. Hang your Rovers banner in a games room, bedroom, or family home - a permanent reminder of a great season at Stradbroke Park.
Grand Final Banners
When the Rovers earn a finals berth, send them out in style. Our Grand Final Banners are available in 4.5m and 5.5m widths with fully customised top and bottom text. Contact us for design advice to make sure the Kew Rovers run out through something truly special on grand final day.
About Kew Rovers Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Kew Rovers Football Club was established in 1971 by Father Kevin Nicholson, the priest at Sacred Heart Parish Primary School in Kew, who wanted to give his students the chance to play football and have fun. The club started with a single team of local school children, some as young as five years old. Co-founder Bryan "BJ" O'Shaughnessy served as the first coach, with his wife Sally as secretary and canteen manager - truly a family-run operation from the very beginning. The club's first home was Sacred Heart, but all match games were played at Stradbroke Park, which has remained the club's home ground to this day. With no external funding, the club survived entirely on canteen sales in those early years. BJ coached the Rovers for eleven years and left such a lasting impact on hundreds of young players that the club honours his memory with a Perpetual Trophy, awarded annually for outstanding contributions to the club. Full club history is on the Kew Rovers official history page.
Club History
The Kew Rovers commenced in the Hawthorn District Junior Football League. By 1978, the club had grown enough to join the larger Doncaster and Yarra Junior Football League. By 1981, Kew Rovers was the strongest club in that competition, fielding eight teams from Under 11s to Under 15s. When the Yarra Junior Football League (YJFL) was formed in 1997 through the merger of the Doncaster and Districts Junior Football League and the Hawthorn Districts Junior Football League, Kew Rovers became a foundation member. Today the YJFL is the largest junior Australian rules football competition in Australia, comprising 30 clubs and 66 divisions. The Rovers' senior pathway is through Kew Football Club in the VAFA. Among the most celebrated alumni is James Morrissey, who went on to win three AFL premierships with Hawthorn Football Club. The club's influence has also extended through Xavier College and the VAFA, with the Old Xaverians Football Club training and playing at Stradbroke Park.
Home Ground
Kew Rovers play at Stradbroke Park in Kew East, their home since 1971. The ground sits within the residential streets of Kew East and also serves the Old Xaverians Football Club as a training and match-day venue. The club also uses Greythorn Park in North Balwyn for some fixtures across the YJFL season.
Community and Programs
Kew Rovers fields boys, girls, and mixed teams from Auskick through to Under 18 age groups. In 2024, the club was recognised as an AFL Victoria Women and Girls Chartered Club, reflecting strong commitment to girls' football. The club had a U13 Girls Division 1 team compete in the 2023 YJFL grand final. In 2020, Collingwood Football Club entered a major community partnership with the YJFL, bringing elite player visits and junior development programs to member clubs. In June 2024, Collingwood stars Steele Sidebottom, Nick Daicos, and Finlay Macrae visited Stradbroke Park to entertain the Rovers, showcasing the league's elite connections.
Kew, Victoria
Kew is an inner-eastern suburb of Melbourne located approximately 5 kilometres from the CBD, within the City of Boroondara. At the 2021 census, Kew had a population of 24,499, according to the Kew, Victoria Wikipedia page. Named in 1851 by Nicholas Fenwick after the famous English Kew - which he noted was near Richmond, just as Melbourne's suburb was near the then-colony's centre - Kew quickly became one of Melbourne's most prestigious addresses. The suburb is home to an extraordinary concentration of private schools: Xavier College (founded 1878), Sacred Heart Primary School (1875), Methodist Ladies' College (1882), Genazzano FCJ College (1889), Trinity Grammar School (1903), Ruyton Girls' School (1878), and Carey Baptist Grammar (1923). Notable residents over the years have included Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, Barry Humphries, and AFL players Jack Billings, Jack Sinclair, Jack Macrae, Andrew Gaff, and Luke McDonald. The suburb borders the Yarra River, Studley Park, and Yarra Bend Park to the west, offering some of Melbourne's finest parkland walking and cycling.
The Rovers compete in the Yarra Junior Football League and call Stradbroke Park, Kew East, home. Visit the club's website at kewrovers.com.au for registration and club news. Follow the club on Instagram for the latest Rovers updates.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
