About Lobethal Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Lobethal Football Club, known as the Tigers, has one of the longest histories of any club in the Adelaide Hills, with origins tracing back to 1901. The club originally competed as Tweedvale, winning a premiership in 1923, before becoming the Lobethal Football Club. After competing in the Torrens Valley Football Association - where the club won premierships in the 1950s and 1960s - Lobethal joined the Hills Football League in 1967 and has remained there ever since.
Club History
In the Hills Football League, the Tigers have claimed five Division 1 premierships: 1981, 1998, 1999, 2002, and 2022. The 2022 flag - won over Hahndorf in extra time at the conclusion of a competitive finals campaign - was a particularly significant achievement for the club. The Tigers are one of only a handful of HFL clubs with premiership success in the modern era alongside Hahndorf and Mount Barker. The club also competes in Division 2 colts and women's competitions, reflecting its broad community participation base.
Home Ground
The Tigers play their home matches at Lobethal Recreation Ground, a community sports precinct in the heart of Lobethal. The ground hosts football, netball, and other sports, and the adjacent Lobethal Recreation Ground Sports Club provides social facilities for players and supporters. The ground is set among the hills and trees that characterise this part of the Adelaide Hills.
Community and Programs
The Lobethal Football Club fields senior and junior teams across the Hills Football League competition. The club is an integral part of the Lobethal community, with strong involvement from local families and volunteers who maintain the club's traditions across generations. Lobethal
Lobethal is a historic town in the Adelaide Hills Council area of South Australia, approximately 37 kilometres east of Adelaide's CBD. The name means "Valley of Praise" in German, reflecting the town's founding by German Lutheran settlers in 1842. With a population of 2,534 at the 2021 Census, Lobethal is known for its charming stone buildings, scenic valley setting, and strong community character. The town is home to a former textile mill and is famous for its Christmas street lighting festival, which draws visitors from across the state each year.
