About Loxton Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Loxton Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, was founded in 1908, with records of the club's first game against neighbouring Lyrup appearing in the Renmark Pioneer newspaper of 22 May 1908. Throughout the 1920s the club competed in the Loxton District Football Association, and during this period the local competition featured two town teams - the Imperials and the Olympicians. The club reformed after World War II and joined the Upper Murray Football Association, quickly establishing itself as a dominant force by winning the first four premierships it contested in that competition. The Tigers now compete in the Riverland Football League (RFL), one of South Australia's premier country football competitions.

Club History

Loxton's record of success is extraordinary by any measure. The Tigers have claimed 21 senior premierships, including 15 in their first twenty years of competition after reforming in 1946. That remarkable run included back-to-back-to-back flags in 1946, 1947, 1948, and 1949, and a further string of titles throughout the 1950s and 1960s - winning in 1951, 1953, 1955, 1957, 1958, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, and 1965. Later flags came in 1970, 1971, 1976, 1988, 1996, and 2006. Among the most distinguished alumni to have come through the Tigers is Russell Ebert, who went on to become one of the greatest players in Port Adelaide Football Club's history, and Grantley Fielke, who played for both Collingwood and Adelaide in the SANFL era.

Home Ground

The Tigers play their home matches at Loxton Oval in Loxton, a well-regarded country football facility on the banks of the Murray River. The ground has hosted decades of Riverland Football League competition and serves as the backdrop for many of the club's most celebrated premiership victories. The oval is also used by the affiliated netball program and serves as a key community venue for the town of Loxton.

Community and Programs

The Loxton Football Club is deeply embedded in the fabric of the Loxton community, drawing its playing group from the town and surrounding Riverland agricultural districts. The club runs a junior program alongside the senior men's and women's netball programs, ensuring a clear pathway for local talent from junior grades through to senior competition. The Tigers' 21 premierships across more than a century of football reflect a culture of sustained excellence that is rare even among South Australia's most storied country clubs.

Loxton

Loxton is a town in the Riverland region of South Australia, situated approximately 240 kilometres east of Adelaide along the Murray River. At the 2021 Census, Loxton recorded a population of 3,947 residents. The town is the administrative centre of the Loxton Waikerie Council and is known for its horticultural production, particularly citrus and wine grapes. The Murray River setting gives the town a distinctive character, and tourism, agriculture, and community sport are central pillars of local life.

The Tigers compete in the Riverland Football League and call Loxton Oval home. Follow the club on Facebook, or connect on Instagram at @loxtonfootyclub.

  • Footy Banner Information

Material:  All Milestone Banners made by Footybanners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using permanent inks which will not run, even if they get wet.  They are fully recyclable.

How to Use:  We recommend taping broomsticks or plastic pipe to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it.  If you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through.  There are instructions and images for how to cut these in the FAQ section below.

On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon!  This is why we do not pre-cut them, and also so you can get photographs with your intact banner when it looks at it's best.

Tip: Some players choose to only cut one weak spot in their banner so it can be saved and displayed later by taping it back together on the back.

Pro Tip:  Cut the weak spot to one side of the mascot or team logo so it stays intact as well!

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
