About Mannum Roos

Origins and Founding
Australian rules football has been played in Mannum since as early as 1891, making the Mannum Football Club one of South Australia's oldest country football institutions. The club competed in early regional competitions including the Murray River Football Association (MRFA) and the Two-Valley Football Association (TVFA) before joining the River Murray Football League (RMFL) in its current form. The club entered RMFL competition in 1927 and first competed in the league from 1933 to 1936, then 1939 to 1957, and has been competing continuously since 1964. The Roos' distinctive identity has been central to the Mannum community for nearly a century.

Club History
The Mannum Roos have won 7 RMFL senior premierships: 1944, 1949, 1955, 1956, 2003, 2013, and 2015. The 2003 flag ended a long wait since the 1950s, and the 2013 and 2015 titles confirmed a genuine revival in the club's fortunes. The 2013 premiership saw the Roos break the recent stranglehold of Murray Bridge clubs on the RMFL title, with retired SANFL stars Jeremy Clayton and Jade Sheedy playing key roles in the grand final victory. The club has been a grand final contender across multiple seasons and remains one of the RMFL's most competitive sides.

Home Ground
The Roos play their home games at Mannum Oval in Port Mannum, on the west bank of the Murray River. Mannum Oval is a scenic rural ground surrounded by the riverine landscape of the mid-Murray region and serves as the hub for the club's senior, reserves, and junior programs. The oval has hosted generations of RMFL football and is one of the most picturesque country grounds in South Australia.

Community and Programs
The Mannum Football Club runs junior programs to develop local talent, with the club serving as the primary pathway for young footballers from Mannum and the surrounding Murraylands region. The community sporting environment is tightly connected to the town's identity, with football on the banks of the Murray being a deeply embedded part of Mannum's seasonal calendar. The club also runs women's and mixed programs as part of its broader community commitment.

Mannum
Mannum is a historic river town on the west bank of the Murray River in South Australia, located 84 kilometres east of Adelaide. With a population of around 2,919 at the 2021 census, Mannum is the birthplace of river transport on the Murray - the first paddle steamer to operate commercially on the Murray River, the Mary Ann, was built here in 1853. Today, Mannum is a popular destination for houseboating, fishing, and river cruising, sitting in the heart of the Murraylands region and the Mid Murray Council area.
