About Noranda Hawks Junior Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Noranda Hawks Junior Football Club was established in 1979 by founder Alan East, serving the northern suburbs of Perth in Western Australia. The club was built on a philosophy of community football and player development, and has been proudly affiliated with the Hawthorn Football Club in the AFL since its earliest years. That affiliation has connected generations of young players in Noranda and surrounding suburbs to one of Australia's most successful AFL clubs.
Club History
Over more than four decades, the Noranda Hawks have developed into one of the established junior clubs in the northern corridor of the Perth Football League. The club has fielded junior teams across a range of age groups, providing a structured pathway for boys and girls from the earliest youth levels through to under-18s. The Hawks have accumulated a rich history in junior competition, with the club's records and milestones preserved through archives including a 1979 founding newsletter and historical photographs maintained on the club's history page. The Senior Hawks also field teams in the Perth Football League competitions.
Home Ground
The club is based at Lightning Park Recreation Centre, with the main entry located off Della Road in Noranda. Lightning Park provides the training and match-day facilities for the club's junior and senior programs. The facility is centrally located within the suburb and has served the club across its four-plus decades of operation. Club correspondence is directed to PO Box 580, Morley WA 6943.
Community and Programs
The Noranda Hawks operate programs for both junior and senior players, with the junior program catering to children across a range of age groups. The club's affiliation with Hawthorn provides access to AFL-branded resources, development programs and occasions where young players can connect with the parent club. The Hawks are administered by a volunteer committee and maintain an active community presence throughout the northern Perth suburbs.
Noranda
Noranda is a residential suburb in the City of Bayswater, situated in the northern inner suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. The suburb recorded an estimated population of approximately 8,526 as of 2024, covering an area of around 4.9 square kilometres. -
-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
-
