About North Adelaide Football Club
Origins and Founding
North Adelaide Football Club's history reaches back to 1881 with the formation of the Medindie Football Club, founded by students from Prince Alfred College and Whinham College playing matches in the nearby parklands. The club adopted the red and white of Prince Alfred College as its colours. Medindie was elevated to the South Australian Football Association (later the SANFL) in 1888. After five years of competition, with support from North Adelaide residents, the club was renamed North Adelaide in 1893. In the 1880s they were nicknamed the Dindies and in the 1890s the Dingoes, before settling on the Roosters name that has defined the club ever since.
Club History
The Roosters first broke through to win the SANFL premiership in 1900, beginning what the club calls its "first golden age". They have won 14 SANFL senior premierships in total: 1900, 1902, 1905, 1920, 1930, 1931, 1949, 1952, 1960, 1971, 1972, 1987, 1991, and 2018. The women's program has also excelled, adding SANFLW premierships in 2020 and 2022. The club's most celebrated player is Barrie Robran, who won three Magarey Medals (1968, 1970, and 1973), played 201 League games, and was the first SANFL player elevated to "Legend" status in the South Australian Football Hall of Fame. In 1922, North Adelaide moved its home games to Prospect Oval, which remains the club's home today with a capacity of 20,000.
Home Ground
The Roosters play at Prospect Oval, located in Prospect in Adelaide's inner north. The oval holds up to 20,000 spectators and has been the club's home since 1922. It sits within the Prospect City local government area and is accessible from North Adelaide and the inner northern suburbs. The ground hosts SANFL men's and women's matches throughout the winter season.
Community and Programs
North Adelaide supports junior boys, junior girls, and women's programs under the NAFC umbrella, providing a complete football pathway from the junior age groups through to state-level competition. The Roosters Cash Lottery and an active membership base sustain the club's community reach. The club also promotes a bequest program to support long-term sustainability and community investment.
Prospect
Prospect is an inner northern suburb of Adelaide, located approximately 4 kilometres north of the CBD within the City of Prospect local government area. With a population of around 10,000, Prospect is known for its historic streetscapes, leafy residential streets, and the vibrant commercial strip along Prospect Road. The suburb borders North Adelaide and shares a strong connection to football heritage through Prospect Oval, the Roosters' home for over a century.
The Roosters compete in the South Australian National Football League and call Prospect Oval home. For more information, visit the North Adelaide Football Club website, find them on Facebook, or follow them on Instagram.
Footy Banner Information
Material: All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using permanent inks which will not run, even if they get wet. They are fully recyclable.
How to Use: We recommend taping broomsticks or plastic pipe to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it. If you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through. There are instructions and images for how to cut these in the FAQ section below.
On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon! This is why we do not pre-cut them, and also so you can get photographs with your intact banner when it looks at it's best.
Tip: Some players choose to only cut one weak spot in their banner so it can be saved and displayed later by taping it back together on the back.Pro Tip: Cut the weak spot to one side of the mascot or team logo so it stays intact as well!
Return and Refund Policy
As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.
Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
