About O'Sullivan Beach Lonsdale Football Club
Origins and Founding
The O'Sullivan Beach-Lonsdale Football Club - known as the Lonsdale Lions - was formed through the gradual coming together of two clubs from Adelaide's southern coastal corridor. The O'Sullivan Beach Football Club was originally established in 1977, beginning as an under-13 team in the Southern Football League. The Lonsdale Football Club was formed shortly after, in 1979, as the Mawson Football Club before adopting the Lonsdale name. Over the following decades the clubs developed their community roots and eventually merged into the combined entity that competes today as the O'Sullivan Beach-Lonsdale Football Club.
Club History
The combined club competed in the Southern Football League from 2002 through to 2017, fielding teams in senior and junior grades throughout that period. After 2017 the club transitioned to the Adelaide Footy League, the main metropolitan community football competition in South Australia. The Lions represent a part of Adelaide's southern suburbs that has long been underserved by major football infrastructure, and the club's multi-decade history reflects the determined efforts of volunteers and families to keep football alive in the O'Sullivan Beach and Lonsdale communities.
Home Ground
The Lions play in the suburb of Lonsdale and the neighbouring O'Sullivan Beach area, located on the southern fringe of metropolitan Adelaide within the City of Onkaparinga council area. The club draws its membership from both O'Sullivan Beach and Lonsdale - two adjacent coastal communities on the shores of Gulf St Vincent south of the Noarlunga Centre. The area is known for its coastal lifestyle and the nearby Port Noarlunga Reef, a popular snorkelling and diving site.
Community and Programs
The O'Sullivan Beach-Lonsdale Lions offer football for men, women, and juniors, providing a local sporting option for the growing communities of Adelaide's outer south. The club's junior program is an important pathway for young players in an area without major neighbouring clubs, and the Lions are a focal point for community connection in Lonsdale and O'Sullivan Beach. The club's active social media presence and regular community engagement help maintain the connection between the club and its supporter base.
O'Sullivan Beach and Lonsdale
O'Sullivan Beach and Lonsdale are adjoining coastal suburbs in Adelaide's southern growth corridor, located approximately 32 kilometres south of the Adelaide CBD within the City of Onkaparinga. The area has seen consistent residential development over recent decades as families seek affordable housing with easy beach access. The nearby Southern Expressway provides a direct link to the Adelaide CBD, and the communities are served by public transport connections through the Noarlunga Centre hub. The southern suburbs' strong working-class and family demographic makes community football clubs like the Lions an essential part of local life.
The Lions compete in the Adelaide Footy League and represent the O'Sullivan Beach and Lonsdale communities on Adelaide's southern coast. Follow the Lonsdale Lions on Facebook for match news, training details, and club updates throughout the season.
Footy Banner Information
Material: All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using permanent inks which will not run, even if they get wet. They are fully recyclable.
How to Use: We recommend taping broomsticks or plastic pipe to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it. If you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through. There are instructions and images for how to cut these in the FAQ section below.
On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon! This is why we do not pre-cut them, and also so you can get photographs with your intact banner when it looks at it's best.
Tip: Some players choose to only cut one weak spot in their banner so it can be saved and displayed later by taping it back together on the back.Pro Tip: Cut the weak spot to one side of the mascot or team logo so it stays intact as well!
Return and Refund Policy
As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.
Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
