About Panton Hill Redbacks

Origins and Founding

The Panton Hill Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Redbacks (and sometimes the Hillers), was founded in 1926 when it affiliated with the Bourke-Evelyn Football League. The club's original jumper was a maroon guernsey with a white Vee. In 1929 and 1930 the club played in the Diamond Valley Football League before returning to the local competition. The Panton Hill Football Club was placed in recess for much of World War II, missing most of 1939 and all seasons until 1947, when it returned to play in the newly formed Panton Hill Football League alongside six other clubs including Hurstbridge, Kinglake and St Andrews.

Club History

The Redbacks' first senior premiership was won in 1934, defeating a Yarra Glen side that had been undefeated all season. The club's only senior premiership in the Panton Hill Football League era came in 1955, a title that would stand as the club's last for 58 years. The PHFL era came to an end in 1988 when declining numbers led Panton Hill to join the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League. After struggling through the late 1980s and 1990s, the club joined the Diamond Valley Football League in Division 2 in 1997. In 2004 the Redbacks made the finals for the first time in the DVFL, defeating powerhouse club Greensborough in a famous upset. The club has been a strong presence in the Northern Football Netball League's Division 3 since 2010. In 2011, the reserves team won the NFNL premiership. In 2013, under coach Dean Haydock and captain Will Box, Panton Hill won the NFNL Third Division Premiership by one thrilling point over Watsonia - 13.9 (87) to 13.8 (86) - ending a 58-year premiership drought at senior level. Jonathon "Joffa" Byron had topped 100 goals during that season, and a last-quarter goal from Jarrod McGough sealed the comeback win.

Home Ground

The Redbacks play their home games at A.E. Cracknell Reserve in Panton Hill. The ground is located in the heart of the Panton Hill township and has been the spiritual home of the football club for most of its nearly 100-year history. In 1995 the ground underwent upgrades, although flooding during one particularly wet winter forced the team to play home games at Yarrambat. The reserve facilities serve both the football and netball programs of the club.

Community and Programs

The Panton Hill Football Netball Club fields senior men's and reserves teams in the Northern Football Netball League's Division 3, along with a junior football program. The junior program won the Under-10s premiership in 2007 - 42 years after the club's last junior premiership in 1965. The club maintains a strong community identity in the Panton Hill township, providing football and netball pathways for the children and families of the Yarra Ranges region.

Panton Hill

Panton Hill is a small township in Victoria's Shire of Nillumbik, located approximately 33 kilometres north-east of Melbourne in the outer Yarra Ranges. The township sits in a quiet rural setting surrounded by state forest, market gardens, and semi-rural properties. Panton Hill is part of the "Green Wedge" area north of Melbourne and is home to a tight-knit community known for its local arts scene, community markets, and country character. The township is well-connected to the Diamond Creek corridor and the Kangaroo Ground area.

The Redbacks compete in the Northern Football Netball League and call A.E. Cracknell Reserve home. More information is available at pantonhillfc.com.au, and the club can be followed on Facebook and Instagram.

    📄 Material & Construction

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy
