South Gawler Lions Banners - Over 130 Years of Football Pride

Established in 1889, the South Gawler Football Club is one of the most successful clubs in South Australian football history. FootyBanners.com creates custom banners to help the Lions faithful celebrate every milestone with the pride it deserves.

Simple to Order

Choose from Single Player, Two Player, Team, or Grand Final banner options. Provide the player's name, surname, guernsey number, and milestone - for example, David Heron, #4, 150 Games. Banners are printed with permanent inks on heavy-duty, weatherproof paper, perfect for a blazing SA afternoon in Gawler.

Two Players, One Banner

When two Lions hit milestones in the same game, our Two Player Banner honours both achievements on one quality banner. Provide each player's name and guernsey number and we'll take care of the rest.

Team Banners for Group Celebrations

The Team Banner option features 3 to 6 players, ideal for end-of-season presentations and group recognitions. A top-line message like "South Gawler Lions - Mighty Since 1889" tells the whole story. A brilliant way to celebrate the squad together.

Wall Keepsake Banners

Available in Small, Medium, and Large, our Wall Keepsake Banners are printed on thick recyclable paper with waterproof inks. A lasting tribute for the Lions clubrooms or a supporter's home - something to be proud of for years to come.

About South Gawler Lions

Origins and Founding

The South Gawler Football Club, known as the Lions (and sometimes affectionately as "Southies"), was founded on 21 March 1889 by James Fitzgerald at a meeting held at the Mill Inn in Gawler South, South Australia. Approximately 30 people attended that founding meeting, with the original intent to form a junior club that could eventually join a senior association. The club's home today is Eldred Riggs Reserve in Evanston, Gawler, and it currently competes in the Barossa Light and Gawler Football Association (BLGW). The South Gawler Football Club holds 39 A-grade premierships - the third-most in the history of South Australian football.

Club History

The Lions' premiership list spans more than a century, from titles in the Gawler Football Association in the 1890s through to BLGW premierships in 2021 and 2023. Early premierships include 1891, 1893, 1894, 1899, 1901, 1902, and a run of seven consecutive flags from 1906 to 1913. The Lions won four titles in the 1920s (1921, 1922, 1924, 1925) and added further success across the Gawler and District FL and Adelaide Plains FL through the 1950s-1970s, including wins in 1960, 1967, 1969, 1970, and 1974. In the modern era, the club has claimed BLGW premierships in 1990, 1992, 1993, 2021 and 2023. At state level, the club has produced notable SANFL and AFL players including Sam Butler, who joined the West Coast Eagles in 2004 and was a member of their 2006 AFL Premiership team; Yves Sibenaler Jr, who won seven SANFL premierships with Central District between 2003 and 2010; and Alan Obst, who was listed with both the Adelaide Crows and North Melbourne. Historically, Lawrie Rusby played 172 league games for South Adelaide, including premierships in 1935 and 1941, and Walter "Winky" Price won three premierships with West Adelaide.

Home Ground

The Lions play their home games at Eldred Riggs Reserve in Evanston, which is part of the greater Gawler municipality. The reserve is the long-standing home of the South Gawler Football Club and provides facilities for both the senior men's and women's programs, as well as the club's junior sections.

Community and Programs

The South Gawler Football Club runs senior men's, senior women's (the Lionesses), and junior programs. The women's program was established in 2017-18 when the BLGW launched a women's competition, and the Lionesses have grown steadily since, winning the Association's best and fairest in 2022 and a first junior premiership in 2023. The club is deeply embedded in the Gawler community, having operated continuously since 1889 and serving as a central gathering point for the Evanston and Gawler South areas.

Gawler

Gawler is a historic town in South Australia, located approximately 43 kilometres north of Adelaide at the confluence of the North and South Para Rivers. Proclaimed in 1839, it is one of the oldest towns in the state and serves as a regional hub for the Barossa Light region. The Evanston suburb, where the club is located, is part of the Gawler council area and has seen significant growth as part of Adelaide's northern fringe. The Gawler region has a strong culture of community sport, with the South Gawler Football Club one of its most prominent institutions.

The Lions compete in the Barossa Light and Gawler Football Association and call Eldred Riggs Reserve home. More information is available at southgawlerfc.com, and the club can be followed on Facebook and Instagram.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
