Sturt Football Banners - Honouring the Double Blues' Finest Moments

From 50-game milestones to 200-game legends, FootyBanners.com helps the Sturt Football Club recognise its players with custom banners that reflect the pride and history of one of South Australia's most storied clubs.

Simple to Order

Choose from Single Player, Two Player, Team, or Grand Final banners. Provide the player's name, guernsey number, and milestone - for example, Tom Rickard, #6, 100 Games. Printed with permanent inks on heavy-duty weatherproof paper, your banner will hold up through every blustery Adelaide match day without missing a beat.

Two Players, One Banner

When two Double Blues reach the same milestone in the same game, our Two Player banner celebrates them both on a single quality keepsake. Provide both players' names and guernsey numbers and let us do the rest - a banner the whole club will be proud of.

Team Banners for Group Celebrations

Three to six players, one great moment - our Team Banner is perfect for a milestone round or Sturt Football Club presentation night. Add a top-line message like "Sturt Double Blues - Celebrating Our Champions" and finish with a rallying tagline that sums up the Double Blues spirit.

Wall Keepsake Banners

Available in Small, Medium, and Large, our Wall Keepsake Banners are printed on thick recyclable paper with waterproof inks. Whether they hang in the Double Blues' clubrooms or in a player's home, they're built to last as a proud reminder of what was achieved.

Grand Final Banners

For the Sturt Football Club's biggest game of the season, our 4.5m and 5.5m Grand Final banners are fully customisable with your choice of top and bottom text. Contact us for design guidance and let's help the Double Blues make a grand entrance on their most important day.

About Sturt Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Sturt Football Club was established on 14 March 1901 following a meeting at the Unley Town Hall convened by the Sturt Cricket Club. Delegates from local junior teams, footballers, and residents voted to form a senior club in the Sturt Electoral Division to join the South Australian Football Association (SAFA). The club took its name from the Australian explorer Charles Sturt, and chose Oxford and Cambridge blue as its colours - a nod to the Oxford Terrace and Cambridge Terrace intersection on which Unley Oval is built. This distinctive dual-blue combination earned the club its enduring nickname, the Double Blues.

Club History

The Sturt Football Club has won 16 SANFL premierships: 1915, 1919, 1926, 1932, 1940, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1974, 1976, 2002, 2016, 2017, and 2025. The club's most celebrated era came under coach Jack Oatey, who was appointed in 1962 and built a dynasty that produced five consecutive premierships between 1966 and 1970, and a further flag in 1974 and 1976. The 1976 Grand Final, won before a record Football Park crowd of 66,897, featured legendary ruckman Rick Davies. The 2002 premiership came 26 years after the 1976 flag - and was tragically followed by the Bali bombings six days later, in which player Josh Deegan and trainer Bob Marshall lost their lives. Martin Mattner led a resurgence in 2016 and 2017, delivering back-to-back premierships, and the club claimed its 16th flag in 2025. Magarey Medal winners from Sturt include triple winner Len Fitzgerald and Damian Squire, who won consecutive medals in 1999 and 2000.

Home Ground

Sturt plays its home games at Unley Oval in the suburb of Unley, South Australia. The 15,000-capacity ground is one of Adelaide's most historic football venues and takes its character from its location at the junction of Oxford Terrace and Cambridge Terrace - the very streets that gave the Double Blues their name. Unley Oval has hosted SANFL football for more than a century and remains the heartbeat of the Sturt Football Club's community.

Community and Programs

Sturt fields teams in the SANFL men's and women's competitions, with the women's program added as the game has expanded. The club has a strong junior development pathway and maintains deep ties to its local community in Unley and the surrounding inner-southern suburbs of Adelaide. Sturt's history of producing state and national-level talent, combined with its consistent finals presence, makes it one of South Australia's most respected football institutions.

Unley

Unley is an inner-southern suburb of Adelaide, located approximately 3 kilometres south of the Adelaide CBD within the City of Unley. It is one of Adelaide's most desirable suburbs, known for its heritage-listed homes, tree-lined streets, and vibrant Unley Road shopping and dining precinct. The suburb has a population of around 17,000 and is characterised by well-preserved character housing from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Unley Oval sits within this historic setting, making Sturt one of the few SANFL clubs whose home ground is embedded within a genuinely inner-city community.

The Double Blues compete in the SANFL and call Unley Oval home. Visit the club website for more information, follow them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for news and match day updates.

  • Footy Banner Information

All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using solvent inks which will not run, even if they get wet.

We recommend taping broomsticks to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it.  if you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through.

On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon!

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
