About Tom Price Tigers Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Tom Price Tigers Football Club traces its origins to 1970, when Australian Rules football first took root in the remote Pilbara mining town of Tom Price. The competition began with a social match between workers from the pit area and the crushing and screening department at the Hamersley Iron mine, and quickly grew into a formal competition. The club was originally known as the Crushers, reflecting its membership drawn from the crushing and rail operations of the mine. After winning their first premiership in 1983, the club rebranded as the Tigers - and the name has stuck ever since. The full history of the competition is documented on Wikipedia.


Club History
Since winning that maiden premiership in 1983, the Tigers have been one of the most decorated clubs in the Fortescue National Football League, accumulating 11 premierships in total: 1983, 1984, 1989, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2004, and 2021. The period from 1991 to 2004 was the club's golden era - the Tigers appeared in every grand final across those years and won seven flags during that remarkable run. Their most recent premiership came in 2021, defeating the Townsite Eagles in the decider. The club fields junior, youth, and senior teams, ensuring the Tiger tradition is passed on to each new generation in Tom Price.


Home Ground
The Tigers play their home games at Clem Thompson Oval on Stadium Road in the heart of Tom Price. The ground features a community pavilion with change rooms, a canteen, a grandstand seating approximately 200 people, and an upstairs function room - facilities that serve the entire Tom Price football community. Lights were installed at the Tom Price oval in the early 1990s, enabling evening fixtures during the wet-season heat. The ground is named in honour of Clem Thompson, one of the outstanding early footballers in the competition's history.


Community and Programs
The Tigers are a family-focused club built around community, respect, and Tiger pride. The club operates junior, youth, and senior programs, giving players of all ages a pathway through the game in one of Australia's most isolated football communities. An Indigenous Round is held each season, celebrating the deep connection between football and First Nations communities in the Pilbara. Tom Price
Tom Price is a mining town in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, sitting at an elevation of 747 metres - making it the highest town above sea level in WA, earning it the nickname "Top Town in WA." The town is located approximately 1,470 kilometres north of Perth and is home to the Mount Tom Price iron ore mine, operated by Rio Tinto. With a population of 2,874 at the 2021 Census, Tom Price is a close-knit community with a strong sporting culture. The town sits on the edge of the Hamersley Range and is the gateway to Karijini National Park. The town and mine were named after Thomas Moore Price (1891-1962), the vice-president of Kaiser Steel and one of the key figures in opening up Pilbara iron ore mining.
