About Virginia Football and Netball Club
Origins and Founding
The Virginia Football Club has its origins in 1908, making it one of South Australia's oldest country football clubs. When the Adelaide Plains Football Association was formally established at a meeting in Dublin on 4 May 1909, Virginia was one of the founding member clubs - alongside Mallala, Two Wells, Windsor, Lower Light, and Dublin. The club has competed in the Adelaide Plains competition almost continuously since those earliest seasons, becoming a cornerstone of football in the rural communities north of Adelaide. Over more than a century, the club has been sustained by generations of family connections, with volunteers and community supporters keeping the Rams running through every era.

Club History
The Virginia Rams have won four Adelaide Plains Football League (APFL) premierships - in 1909, 1910, 1998, and 2015. The first two flags came in the club's opening seasons of the formal competition, while the 1998 premiership marked a triumphant return to winning form after decades of consistent competition. The 2015 flag is the club's most recent senior title. Virginia have regularly appeared in finals across multiple grades, and have featured in APFL grand finals in reserves and lower grades on multiple occasions including in 1996, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2012, 2016, 2017, and 2021. The club celebrated its centenary in 2008 with community events honouring more than 100 years of football in the Virginia area.

Home Ground
The Virginia Rams play their home games at Virginia Sports Oval, a community facility in the town of Virginia, South Australia. Virginia Sports Oval has been the home of Rams football for generations and sits at the heart of the local sports precinct. The ground hosts football, netball, and social events throughout the season, serving as a central hub for the Virginia community and supporting the club's broader football and netball programs.

Community and Programs
The Virginia Football and Netball Club operates as a combined sports club, running senior football, junior football, and netball programs together. The combined structure ensures that families throughout the Virginia district can participate in sport at the same venue and at the same time. The club relies entirely on volunteers, with families contributing across roles from coaching and administration to fundraising and ground maintenance. The Starr family is among the club's most celebrated dynasties, with multiple generations contributing to the Rams across more than 50 years of service.

Virginia is a small rural town located approximately 35 kilometres north of the Adelaide CBD on the northern plains of South Australia. It is part of the City of Playford local government area and sits within one of South Australia's most productive horticultural regions, with market gardens, flower farms, and nurseries forming the backbone of the local economy. The Adelaide Plains region is characterised by flat agricultural land stretching from the foothills to the coast, and Virginia serves as one of its main service towns alongside Mallala and Two Wells.
