West Footscray Roosters Banners - Crow-Worthy Celebrations

Milestone moments deserve to be marked in style, and FootyBanners.com is proud to help the Roosters faithful celebrate every big occasion. Whether it's a player's 50th, 100th, or 200th game, a custom West Footscray Roosters banner makes it a run-through no one in the club will ever forget.

Simple to Order

Choose from Single Player, Two Player, Team, or Grand Final banner options - all fully personalised for the player or group you're honouring. For a player banner, just provide the name, surname, guernsey number, and milestone - for example, Tom Moretti, #11, 150 Games. Printed with permanent inks on heavy-duty coated paper, these banners stand up to a bitter Melbourne winter without running or fading.

Two Players, One Banner

When two Roosters reach the same milestone on the same afternoon, the Two Player Banner lets you celebrate both at once. Simply provide both players' names and guernsey numbers and we'll put together a quality two-player banner that gives each milestone the recognition it deserves.

Team Banners for Group Celebrations

Got three to six Roosters hitting milestones in the same round? The Team Banner option is perfect for bringing everyone together on one banner. Try a top line like "WEST FOOTSCRAY ROOSTERS - MILESTONE CREW" and round it off with a tagline that captures the spirit of the Coop. A fantastic way to celebrate the Roosters as a unit.

Wall Keepsake Banners

Our Wall Banners are available in Small, Medium, and Large sizes, printed on thick recyclable paper with waterproof inks that stay sharp long after the final siren. Hang one in the clubrooms at Kevin Shorten Reserve, a players' garage, or a games room - a lasting keepsake for any Rooster who has made their mark at the club.

Grand Final Banners

When the Roosters are in the big dance, make it one to remember with a Grand Final Banner in 4.5m or 5.5m widths, with customised top and bottom text crafted for the West Footscray Football Club. Not sure what to write? Reach out to our team and we'll help you nail the message.

About West Footscray Football Club

Origins and Founding

The West Footscray Football Club was founded in 1932 under the name Tottenham Imperials, entering the Footscray District Football League in its inaugural season. The club was established in the suburb of West Footscray, in Melbourne's inner west, playing out of what would eventually become Kevin Shorten Reserve on Essex Street. The Imperials quickly found their footing, winning their first premiership in 1934 and backing it up with a second flag in 1935. The club took on the name West Footscray and the Roosters nickname as it became a permanent fixture in local football, developing deep roots in one of Melbourne's most industrious working-class suburbs.

Club History

According to Wikipedia's history of the club, West Footscray has claimed seven senior premierships across two divisions: Division 1 titles in 1934, 1935, 1947, 1970, and 1982, and Division 2 titles in 1941 and 2007. The 2007 Division 2 premiership was a significant achievement for the modern era of the club.

The Roosters have produced a remarkable lineage of VFL talent. Marty McDonnell played 92 VFL games with Footscray. Laurie Sandilands went on to play 164 games across Footscray and Collingwood, eventually serving as Footscray captain. Robert McGhie played his junior football at West Footscray before embarking on a dual-premiership VFL career, featuring in Richmond's back-to-back premiership teams of 1973 and 1974, and later coaching the Roosters to the 1982 Division 1 flag. The club competes today in Division 2 of the Western Football Netball League (WFNL).

Home Ground

The Roosters play their home games at Kevin Shorten Reserve on Essex Street in West Footscray. The ground sits on land that was previously a bluestone quarry - a fitting piece of history given West Footscray's deep ties to the 19th-century quarrying industry that shaped the suburb. The reserve is named in honour of Kevin Shorten, the first civil defence controller for the Footscray Civil Defence Organisation. In 2026, Shorten Reserve was temporarily out of action for redevelopment works, with the Roosters relocating fixtures for the period while the upgrades proceeded.

Community and Programs

The West Footscray Football Netball Club fields two senior men's teams, a senior women's team (established in 2018), and nine junior sides, including under-15 and under-12 girls teams. The club also runs an Auskick junior development program, providing a football pathway for the youngest members of the community. The Roosters are a family-friendly club that serves the diverse and multicultural community of West Footscray, drawing players and members from across Melbourne's western suburbs.

West Footscray

West Footscray is an inner suburb of Melbourne located 7 km west of the CBD, within the City of Maribyrnong local government area. At the 2021 census, its population was 11,729. The suburb has a rich industrial and multicultural history - it was known in the 19th century as "Stoneopolis" for its basalt quarry industry, and in 1934, Olympic medallist Frank Beaurepaire established the Olympic Tyre Company on Cross Street, which operated until 2001. Today the suburb is known for the Barkly Village strip of multicultural shops and eateries, and has experienced significant gentrification in recent years. West Footscray is served by two suburban railway stations on the Sunbury line: West Footscray and Tottenham.

The Roosters compete in the WFNL Division 2 and call Kevin Shorten Reserve, West Footscray their home. Visit the West Footscray Football Club website for fixtures, membership, and club news, follow them on Facebook for match day updates, and follow them on Instagram for photos and news.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy
