About Whitford Junior Football Club
Origins and Founding
Whitford Junior Football Club (WJFC) was formed in 1974 to give children in Perth's northern suburbs a home for junior Australian rules football. The club is based in Padbury, a suburb of the City of Joondalup that was officially named in 1971 after early Western Australian settler Walter Padbury, according to Wikipedia. WJFC takes its Wildcats identity from the neighbouring Whitfords precinct, the section of Padbury bordering Whitfords Avenue.

Club History
More than fifty years on, WJFC fields teams from Auskick through to youth grades and has produced a number of players who went on to compete at AFL and AFLW level, including Oscar Allen and Mark LeCras at West Coast, Nathan van Berlo at Adelaide and Maggie MacLachlan at Fremantle, as listed on the club's official history page. In March 2025, WJFC was recognised by WA Football's Metro North region for reaching Champion Club Foundation Level, a benchmark reflecting the club's governance and volunteer standards. That same year, long-serving members Jeff Swadling, Adrian Gerard and Adam Brown were inducted as club life members, continuing a tradition of recognition stretching back to founding-era volunteer Jim Turley in 1978.

Home Ground
WJFC calls McDonald Park in Padbury home, a community reserve that doubles as a popular family park with a children's playground, bike and scooter track and barbecue facilities, as described by local area guides. The ground sits close to the Whitfords and Greenwood train stations, making it an accessible match day hub for families across Perth's northern suburbs.

Community and Programs
Alongside its junior and youth teams, WJFC runs an NAB AFL Auskick program for Pre-Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 players, complete with structured fixtures and grid activities each season. The committee includes a dedicated Girls Coordinator role supporting the club's female playing pathway, and the club continues to rely on a large volunteer base of coaches, team managers and canteen staff to run its programs week to week.

Padbury
Padbury sits around 23 kilometres north-north-west of the Perth CBD within the City of Joondalup and recorded a population of 8,626 residents at the 2021 census, according to Wikipedia. The suburb is home to four primary schools and borders the Whitfords precinct and Westfield Whitford City shopping centre, giving it a family-oriented, suburban character typical of Perth's northern coastal corridor.
