A great banner captures the fighting spirit of the Gorillas and sends every player out with the intensity the game demands.
Simple to Order
Ordering a Wilston Grange Gorillas banner is easy. Upload a photo, add the message you want, and our design team creates the artwork. A proof is sent to you before printing begins, so the finished banner looks exactly the way you want it to look on game day.
Two Players, One Banner
Two Gorillas together on one banner is a powerful way to celebrate a standout combination or recognise co-captains who have led the club with pride. The two-player banner is one of our most popular designs and creates an image neither player will forget.
Team Banners for Group Celebrations
Bring the full Gorillas squad together on a team banner for end-of-season presentations or club milestone events. Every player gets their place in a photo that captures what the group achieved together through a full season of hard Queensland football.
Wall Keepsake Banners
A wall keepsake banner is a lasting tribute to a great season or a memorable moment in the Gorillas' story. Display it in the clubrooms, give it to a long-serving club veteran, or hang it at home as a permanent piece of Wilston Grange history.
Grand Final Banners
When the Wilston Grange Gorillas make the grand final, the day deserves to be marked with something special. Our grand final banners are made for the biggest game of the season and give every Gorilla the send-off they have worked all year to earn.
About Wilston Grange Australian Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Wilston Grange Australian Football Club was established in 1945 as the "Wilston Football Club" and was renamed Wilston Grange in 1947. The club entered the Queensland Australian National Football League (QANFL) as a senior competition team in 1950, quickly establishing itself as a competitive force in Brisbane's inner-north. An earlier Wilston Football Club had existed from the early 1930s until 1939 but ceased operations during the war years, making the 1945 re-establishment the beginning of the modern club's continuous history. The club's home for its first years of competition was Emerson Park in Grange.
Club History
The Wilston Grange Gorillas adopted their distinctive nickname around 1958, inspired by player Ken Grimley upon his return to the club. The Gorillas won three QAFL premierships - in 1955, 1969, and 1972 - with the 1972 flag, coached by Alan Killigrew, an especially dominant performance that saw the Gorillas defeat Sandgate by a record 84 points. High-flying full forward Steve Taylor kicked a century of goals in four consecutive seasons from 1969 to 1972. In 1989, Wilston Grange merged with Kedron to form the Kedron Grange Football Club, competing together until 1996. The club recommenced senior football in 1995 and was re-admitted to the QAFL in 2014, returning top-flight football to Hickey Park. Four players - Keith Leach, Ken Grimley, Barry Clarke, and Scott McIvor - are members of the AFL Queensland Hall of Fame.
Home Ground
Wilston Grange relocated from Emerson Park to Hickey Park, Stafford in 1964. The opening ceremony of the oval featured VFL legend Ron Barassi as guest of honour and was broadcast live on Brisbane radio. Today, Hickey Park at 35 Babarra Street, Stafford, holds up to 5,000 spectators and also serves as the home of the largest AFL9s competition in Queensland, reflecting the club's ongoing commitment to growing the game at all levels.
Community and Programs
The Gorillas field senior men's and women's, masters, youth, and junior teams under the one club structure. The women's team was founded in 2014 and competes in the QWAFL State League. The club's junior program is one of the largest in Brisbane's northern suburbs, feeding directly into senior pathways. The Gorillas' Auskick program introduces the game to young children, while the AFL9s competition at Hickey Park draws participants from across South East Queensland, making the club a central hub for Australian football in the region.
Stafford and Wilston
Stafford is a suburb in inner-northern Brisbane, located approximately 7 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD. Part of the Brisbane City Council area, it borders Grange and Wilston to the south and is characterised by post-war residential development and strong community sporting culture. Wilston itself is one of Brisbane's older established suburbs, home to heritage-listed streetscapes and a well-regarded local shopping strip. Together, the Wilston-Grange-Stafford corridor forms the geographic heart of the club's supporter base.
The Gorillas compete in the QAFL and call Hickey Park, Stafford home. Visit the club website for more information, follow them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for news and match day updates.
Footy Banner Information
All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using solvent inks which will not run, even if they get wet.
We recommend taping broomsticks to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it. if you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through.
On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon!
Return and Refund Policy
As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.
Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
