About Woodville South AFL Masters Football Club
Origins and Founding
Woodville South AFL Masters Football Club entered the AFL Masters SA over-35 competition in 2013, bringing competitive community football to the Woodville South area of Adelaide for players in their 35s, 40s, 50s, and beyond. The club formally incorporated on 8 May 2025, marking a milestone in the club's growth and community standing. AFL Masters competitions operate nationally, providing senior Australians with a structured and competitive environment to continue playing the sport they love, with teams across South Australia competing in age-based divisions.
Club History
Since debuting in the AFL Masters SA over-35 competition in 2013, the Woodville South AFL Masters club has built a dedicated membership of players who share a passion for Australian rules football in their later years. The club has participated in AFL Masters SA competitions across multiple seasons, competing against clubs from across the Adelaide metropolitan area. AFL Masters SA organises regular season fixtures as well as state and national carnival competition, giving players the opportunity to represent their club at a higher level. The 2026 season saw the club open their campaign at Ledger Reserve, their home ground in Woodville South.
Home Ground
The Woodville South AFL Masters play their home games at Ledger Reserve, located at 108 Ledger Road, Woodville South, SA 5011. Ledger Reserve is a community sporting facility nestled within the inner-north-western suburbs of Adelaide, shared with other local sporting groups and providing a well-maintained oval for regular AFL Masters competition. The reserve sits within a compact suburban precinct close to shopping, schools, and other community services.
Community and Programs
AFL Masters competitions are known for their inclusive, non-contact (or modified contact) format, welcoming all fitness levels and encouraging former junior and senior players to stay connected to the game beyond their peak playing years. Woodville South AFL Masters actively recruits players aged 35 and over from the local Woodville, Pennington, and surrounding suburb communities. The club values camaraderie and community connection as much as on-field competition, with post-game social activities forming an important part of club culture.
Woodville South
Woodville South is a compact inner-suburban locality located approximately 8 kilometres north-west of the Adelaide CBD, within the City of Charles Sturt local government area. The suburb had a population of 3,464 people at the 2021 census. The area is predominantly residential, with easy access to Port Adelaide, the Westfield West Lakes shopping centre, and public transport into the Adelaide city centre. Woodville South forms part of a broader cluster of western suburbs with deep industrial and working-class heritage dating back to the early twentieth century.
