About Woodville-West Torrens Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Woodville-West Torrens Football Club was formed in 1990 through the merger of two neighbouring SANFL clubs - Woodville FC (which had competed in the SANFL from 1964 to 1990) and West Torrens FC (which dated back to 1895 as the Port Natives before becoming West Torrens in 1897). The two clubs shared western suburbs territory for nearly three decades but struggled to remain competitive as the Adelaide Crows' entry into the AFL in 1991 changed the landscape of South Australian football. West Torrens was technically insolvent with debts of $1.1 million at the time of the merger, making the amalgamation a lifeline for both clubs. The merged club played its inaugural SANFL season in 1991 under the name Woodville-West Torrens Eagles.
Club History
The Eagles proved immediately competitive after their formation, winning their first SANFL premiership in 1993 under captain Peter Schwarz. Further flags followed in 2006, 2011, 2020, and 2021 - giving the club five premierships across its 35-year history. The back-to-back premierships in 2020 and 2021 were particularly celebrated achievements and cemented the Eagles' reputation as one of the SANFL's leading clubs. West Torrens had brought significant heritage to the merged club, having appeared in 8 SAFA/SANFL grand finals before the merger, with its last flag coming in 1953. The Woodville-West Torrens Football Club also operates juniors and women's programs, developing the next generation of Eagles talent.
Home Ground
The Eagles play at Woodville Oval on Eastern Parade, which has a capacity of approximately 15,000 spectators. The ground was the home of the original Woodville FC and has served as the merged club's primary venue since 1993 (with their first season played at Football Park). Eastern Parade is also referenced as an alternate ground. The facility is located in the inner western suburb of Woodville Park and serves as the hub of the club's on-field and community activities.
Community and Programs
The Woodville-West Torrens FC is one of only nine SANFL clubs and operates at the highest level of state football in South Australia. Alongside its elite senior program, the club runs junior and women's football programs, creating clear development pathways in the club's western Adelaide catchment area. The club's catchment spans the diverse western suburbs of Adelaide, including Woodville, West Torrens, Pennington, Mansfield Park, and surrounding communities.
Woodville
Woodville Park is an inner-western suburb of Adelaide, located approximately 7 kilometres northwest of the CBD in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. The broader Woodville and West Torrens area has a working-class and multicultural character, shaped by its industrial and port heritage. The western suburbs of Adelaide have a proud football tradition, with the Eagles representing the continuation of more than 130 years of community football in the region stretching back to West Torrens' 1895 foundation.
The Eagles compete in the SANFL and call Woodville Oval, Eastern Parade home. Visit the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club website for tickets, memberships, and club information.
Footy Banner Information
All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using solvent inks which will not run, even if they get wet.
We recommend taping broomsticks to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it. if you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through.
On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon!
Return and Refund Policy
As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.
Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
