About Camden Cats
Origins and Founding
The Camden Cats Senior Australian Football Club was founded in 1982, making it one of the longest-established Australian rules football clubs in south-west Sydney. The club was originally known as Camden Power and played out of the Kirkham Park ground in Camden. In its early years, Camden Power competed in the South Coast AFL Competition, which later expanded to include teams across the Illawarra and Macarthur regions. The club's motto - Pride, Passion, Respect - has guided its culture from its earliest seasons through to the present day.
Club History
A major turning point came in 2003 when the club relocated from Kirkham Park to the new Fairfax Reserve ground in Harrington Park. That move coincided with immediate on-field success: in 2003 the club won the First Grade premiership in the South Coast AFL Competition, followed by another premiership in 2005. According to Wikipedia, the club competed in the South Coast AFL Competition until 2007 before transitioning to the AFL Sydney competition, where they have remained ever since. The club subsequently renamed to the Camden Cats and expanded its program to include women's teams alongside the senior men's side.
Home Ground
The Camden Cats play their home games at Fairfax Reserve in Harrington Park, a suburb of Sydney's Macarthur region within Camden Council. The reserve takes its name from the Fairfax family, who historically owned Harrington Park as a grand private estate before the area was developed as a residential suburb. Fairfax Reserve provides the Cats with a well-located home ground in one of Sydney's fastest-growing south-western districts, with easy access for players and supporters from across the Camden local government area.
Community and Programs
The Camden Cats field both men's and women's teams in the AFL Sydney competition, catering for players of all levels of experience and ability. The club is proud of its inclusive and supportive environment for players, volunteers and supporters alike. It actively participates in campaigns such as the Say No To DV initiative, reflecting the club's commitment to community values that extend beyond the football field. The Cats welcome new players, volunteers and sponsors and run regular season events and social programs for the broader club family.
Harrington Park
Harrington Park is a suburb in the Macarthur Region of Sydney, located approximately 60 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD within Camden Council. According to the Harrington Park Wikipedia article, the suburb recorded a population of 13,332 at the 2021 census. Once a grand private estate, Harrington Park has been developed into a residential suburb and is part of the rapidly growing outer south-west Sydney corridor. The Camden LGA has experienced significant population growth and the AFL Cats have been well placed to service the expanding community.
The Cats compete in the AFL Sydney competition and call Fairfax Reserve, Harrington Park home. Visit the club website or follow them on Instagram for news, fixtures and membership details.

Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
